Not masochism I think. More like predator instincts. She enjoys watching her prey struggle. It's a game for her and the better her opponent, the more she enjoys the hunt. Even to the point she's willing to voluntarily take on some handy caps to keep their relationship/the game dynamic and interesting.

An AI that has access to the game forums to adjust its actions, tactics, and difficulty in response to the players attitudes? Sounds awesome and possible if incredibly difficult to program, but would be so worth it for the immersion it would add to a game.
