An unexpected hidden gem. I am NOT a fan of football. I find a match too dull and too long, and I do not understand (and have no interest in) tactics. This novel managed to weave a powerful narrative that kept my interest, and even took shots at policies of 2 countries and survived to tell the tale (see what I did there? 😁) with a great wrap-up. Highly recommended, and hopefully it tickles the fancy too of football fans especially.
