he should have made a different key action. well, better luck next time. if he gets any offensive abilities, he should make them single handed, so that it can not only be easily concealed, but also done while bound and captured. his feet would also work, like tapping his feet while crossing his toes.

plus, that means 16 or 32 possible signals on one hand. just depends on the thumb, since it can't hit the palm as easily, especially if the other fingers are trying to do the same.
Tapping once was easily mistaken as an instinctive knock to his head and tapping thrice could be a waste of valuable time in dangerous situations. Good master candidate. I'm sure there will be some kind of benefit to having a master, but someone who saves a blind girl and is naturally awkward is unlikely to abuse that connection.
