You're wrong. His mother was part of the Gaunt family and was probably a squib, while his father was a muggle. If I remember correctly her love was an unrequited one, which was why she used a potion. After the effect expired, he abandoned her and she later died after giving birth.

Honestly, pirates were far from the worst criminals in the world, that 'honor' belonged to the Celestial Dragons and no one else. Well, those two wouldn't be leaving the island alive anyway.
