nahh, he couldn't leave the mom since after the dad died, all she had was him and the sister. The sister ends up leaving without telling them anything, so it's just the son and mom for like a year. they are probably super close, but then the sister comes back with everyone that has powers. greedy people try to use the brother to get the sister, but the brother notices this and can't really handle it mentally, so he copes with alcohol and withdraws to his room. The sister is probably too busy but notices, and everyone doesn't talk about all this, so things just go downhill for him til now.
