this dude feels like a spoilt brat, completely different from the researcher in the first chapter. he seems like a completely different person. author if this is your idea for comic relief, no offence, it's terrible and completely ruins your initially established character

for a guy that just lost the only person who loves him, he seems a bit too upbeat. he didn't even bother asking if he could meet his mother one last time before attempting to move on. poor characterization imo
