I really dig the loyalty.
non english citizens are only eligible for honorary knighthood, but if at any point later they become a citizen, they can be bumped up to full knighthood. honorary knights can't use Sir or Dame in their title untill the do become a citizen.
if he didn't have the mentality to want to choose the latter, he probably wouldn't be in this situation. if he was just a chill dude going with the flow, I bet the other families would at minimum tolerate them.

I mean, it's like saying to a friend, "you do you, man." I'll support you however I can. At this stage it's not like they think he will amount to much. if anything following a determined man with alot of conviction is probably pretty good as long as he doesn't do anything too foolish or insane. don't take their vows super seriously until they have shown actions to support their words.

Bugbear is a common monster in dnd that appears with goblins. I assume in this case it has a similar meaning of being a insult by calling him a goblinoid monster.
