I read a fanfic a while back that had him as a master death warlock that secretly loved all the students as his kids and when creatures showed up during the big showdown it was revealed that he was the actual owner of hogwarts and had just let the 4 founders use his home. dude was like 5000+ years old. it was only a 3 chapter short fic but good.
