I love and hate you for fhat Exlor. I can see in the comments that such political behiaviour is trigger point not just dor myself but apparently many others. The one time he started broadly sharing his inventions he got let down by the so called backers. That feeling of powerlessness against your opponent and not finding the solution and not having the backed up strength to spit into their face … It is a well done setup! and I hate of how much I see my behaviours mirrored in the story

those slize of Zanzan chapters do the story really well! I specially like how you fill in the picutre of this Jamiz-family. That makes Zanzan as a city so much more alive - and we don‘t have this kind of acces anymore alone from Alexanders POV. So great job - thanks a lot! A little personal wish: It would be good if genius like Waali would need to be reported to the temple. Maybe Ophenia overhears the priest gossiping in the temple. And because of Alxx teaching she knows how terrifying this talent must be to find Eulers arithmetic mean. And in the guise and belief that geniuses are Gaias gifts (shown be the example of Alexander) to their worshippers they have to be gathered in the temple. So that Gaias gift can be unpacked to its fullest. Maybe specialized afternoon 1:1 classes from dedicated priests? —> therefor Ophenia makes a talent factory for Alexander. Look up the the greek / roman interpetation of genius - and nice read; a genius is actually a helper that is sent to you as a gift of the gods. Not something inherent and something to be arrogant of - but thankful for their God‘s gift.

Sometimes the dullness of death is the fearful thing. Let‘s say plot armor shouldn‘t be too strong. You probably could use it as a catalyst for character development or a political upheavel. Let‘s say Perseus dies and that leaves: since Perikles is in Zanzan the „old uncles“ rise up. Or Lord Theony dies of regret and his son takes over - with total different mindset than his father. Same for all Zanzan characters. Maybe the widow then turns out to be a masterful politician.
(P.S. Author inquiry- I was wondering how would you feel if I killed a major character like this. From a common cold, fever, or other illness. Because such things did happen in real life. Many, many important figures just got ill and died. Imagine Menes taking a bath in the icy cold water with a few of his bodyguards as a fun pass time, catching a fever, and then suddenly dying.
