The story starts off interesting but quickly goes downhill. Either people are completely hostile to mc or admire him from the bottom of their hearts, no inbetween. The amount of times that an elder is wishing to attack/kill him (an eight year old boy) simply because he doesnt prostrate in fear due to their power is mindboggling. I’ve had multiple times where i thought “wouldn’t it be better to be the bad guys at this point?” I’ve read up to chapter 142 and at this point i don’t see it getting any better. Please do not compare this to TDG as that is a VERY far-reaching claim.

Too many reviews hype this book up. Maybe that caused me to have high expectations… granted I’ve only read 30 chapters, but I do not see anything special about this book. World building is good, writing better than average, however the characters and logic…. Just wow (not in a good way). Yes, I understand his past life and “pessimism”. He does not act like a pessimist but a tyrant. There may be a better word but i believe a tyrants personality fits. Those who do not appease you are hateful/enemies. A hypocrite paired with arrogance. I mean immediately wanting someone to be bad on first meeting because he’s a noble/handsome, acting like it’s your right to learn something for free and any trade is a ripoff or you should not thank your predecessors for sharing knowledge because it was their “selfish” desires for future commoner mages to blossom. Lets also not forget that farmers are somehow mistreated for having to pay the same fee as villagers (the community they belong to) for services provided by a mage? Reviews I read elsewhere notes that the character devolves even further and teen drama becomes prevalent. I’m dropping this book and giving warning to those with a similar taste/logic
