Like I thought he can make more reflections and toss away the corruption which begs the question how did Soul Stealer get defiled? Than again this is the Mad Prince afterall probably found a way.

I’ve seen plenty of good people that seem incompetent because their good nature, but it’s more likely to be handicap driven mindset and when good in them is gone, well, good luck.

I always believed that there are different strains to corruption and in this case defilement is a variant that maintains one’s rank and core equally while the normal corruption causes a person to be brought back down to a beast in terms of soul cores like what happened with Daeron.
Mordret was merely an Ascended Monster right now, while the Dread Lord… there were five repugnant masses of Corruption hidden in the boundless darkness of his defiled soul, so he had to be a Corrupted Tyrant. The chances of victory were slim. - LevinCloth1mthReplied to Gigafire
I believe he just made using the stone found in the source and countless time loops and abominations he fought along the way.
At least he possessed both of his hands here. Sadly, Mordret could only reflect the powers and weapons of the master of the invaded soul, not use his own. And since the Dread Lord had surrendered to Defilement and was thus banished from the Nightmare Spell, there were no Memories here for Mordret to summon. - LevinCloth1mthCommented
