His father was The White Fang. besides Hatake Clan might not be a major clan but it is still a clan. Danzo usually doesnt touch clan kids.

The only advantage of standing out is getting a good Jonin teacher upon graduating and maybe befriending clan kids. but other than that Konoha doesn't really do much for geniuses. the only teachers worth having in the village are Orochimaru (defecting soon), Tsunade (not in village), Jiraya (mostly not in village), and Hiruzen who is too busy being Hokage. Guy is not ready yet. Danzo can't be trusted.
