Chinese novels tend to be pret-ty ***ist so in order to be capable of being 'strong' girls need to be cold and unfeeling and most especially uninterested in romance/*** initially, and later with anyone except the ludicrously handsome and strong male lead. North Night's work is pretty typical at least in my experience but I wouldn't say it's a genre that I consume voraciously so I might not be the best judge.
