it was my first Chinese novel too! it's also one of the few that I actually read to the end, since most novels are far too long. I usually get bored after 500 to 800 chapters if the novel doesn't stay exciting and fresh. I actually read this novel once before and I'm planning on quitting by chapter 500 as long as I find a good spot where futian is with the fox, since I know it drags on and becomes kind of lame later.

because it's not about their current strengths. MC is destined to be an emporer and yu Sheng is destined to be his general or right hand man. this isn't spoilers its just my guesses from this chapter. if yu Sheng wants to betray the Mc and become emporer then he will have to defy his family and probably kill the MC, but with their close brotherhood this just doesn't seem plausible if it was even possible in the first place. also it could be a matter of bloodlines.

it is nothing complicated, a godfather or godmother in English means they are good friends with your parent and likely saw your birth, and might have helped raise you to some extent. for example if MC and fox had a kid, and yu Sheng was still around and witnessed the kid grow up he could potentially be considered a godfather. it is similar to an adoptive parent but your parents are still around and gave them permission due to how close they are. essentially like a close uncle or auntie.

This novel is great I just wish it did the romance tag justice. It's been 800+ chapters and there's potentially 3-4 women sunny could maybe get romantically involved with and yet nothing ever happens. Sunny has stayed the night with multiple women, nothing happens. They go on dates, nothing happens. Not even a smidgen of romantic tension. Also every time we see sunny and nephis after a certain point, nephis does something sunny doesn't like and then sunny runs away and does his own thing. This has happened 3 times and it's getting really fuxking annoying. Also at about 846 the author nerfs sunnys ability to gain shadow fragments again just so we know for a fact he's never going to be able to catch up to nephis. It's so annoying. She's been 4000 fragments ahead of him the entire story and every time we get a huge plot device that gives sunny 1000+ fragments that author goes (oh but actually nephis got 3000 more and evolved while you weren't looking) as if that makes any f+king sense at all. But anyways those are just some of the things that have been annoying me. In reality the novel is very good and I would recommend.
