They are of the same Varna i.e. Kshatriya. They look down upon Karna because he is Soot Putr/Charioteer's son while they are Royalty/king/prince etc. It is the same thing like a 1st world country looking down upon 3rd world country, or an Englishman looking down upon a black/brown person, or a Rich guy looking down upon Poor folks. It's a matter of class.
