Well, evil heroes can be interesting, though I am not speaking about pure evil. I derive enjoy from reading books about good MC becoming evil ones, or getting anti-social issues which they can't really cure, also love if the world itself is presented as dark/gloom as it gives more opportunities to the plot to be press on MC and all around him. From character development standpoint, person can develop both positively and negatively, depending on the needs. As a rule of thumb, if surviving becomes a struggle, you will have to gradually shake off morals and take less risky, more immoral path of actions. This is also what i don't like in people of high moral in novels (i usually dislike too kind and benevolent types of MC), their actions just harm both themselves and their close ones. Well, let me rephrase, I will like if taking a lawful action will actually hurt MC, like saving X lady will result in Y villain killing off his family or stopping a rape scene will result in MC being sentenced as his enemy actually had enough influence to act on his wants while MC had only "it is not good, I must stop it" mentality. Well, one can also make a Mary Sue out of MC, but this will make an empty shell out of a character, also author will almost 100% dumb down enemies for MC to act like an all-knowing sage who is also kind. By the way, evil MC may be an ancient cliche, however it still stands that there are whole lot more novels/books with goody two shoes MC instead of villain-type ones. While I was reading chinese/korean/japanese novels here and there, i've found almost none of "Reverend Insanity" type of MC, classic literature may have more, but it is not exactly what people on the webnovel/qidian site are looking for? About recommendations, while it is not a chinese novel, try Mother of Learning (if you didn't), I actually enjoyed reading that one. P.S. It is not too long and MC is good as a person. Lately I am also reading one jp novel series called Kino no Tabi (Adventures of Kino), assuming I have time. If you are tired of power-leveling novels you may also read it.

If you want to drop a story because of a joke, then go ahead. This is a novel about an evil mass murderer which by, as I believe, any religious standard is not recommended to read.

About Solo Leveling, I find the manhwa a lot better than the novel.

SCOG is a good Korean novel, however it is still quite fast-paced plotwise. I mistook your sentence for more chapters to level up = better, which is not quite the case, especially with cultivation type novels, so take it as I didn't write you in the first place. Like, I have a lot of experience(about 4 to 5 years) reading Chinese/Japanese/Korean novels, at least localized ones. Guess what, about 90% of them are fast-food type. Most of them have tremendously frustrating plotholes. Author just writes all he/she thinks about without thinking about the logic. Like, romance for Er Gen novels just sucks(Xian Ni for example). Side character development sucks for almost all novels, especially so for face-slapping Chinese novels and for cold-hearted protagonist Korean novels (don't even mention harem beta-mc type novels, those just exist for the sake of existing). Personally, I don't even fathom how people believe that BTTH, WDQK, Solo Leveling, Tate no Yuusha and many more others are good novels. At best they are meh, at worst... ugh... reading Martial God Asura or WDQK is quite an experience, though I found the DAO of braindead this way. Like I can read it and even like some parts, but I won't ever say I've found a masterpiece among them...

After reading your message I kinda feel sorry for being aggressive 🤣. I agree with emotionless MC part, still lazy novel authors are not something new. My brain is often more than not turned off at the killing part, otherwise I will drop almost every Chinese novel. The reason for my foremost message actually is simple, MC statement about giving a beating sounded too illogical for my dear self. Like, the process of how MC got to this point, did he reason with himself? Is he a pacifist, or he didn't think they are threatening enough, or is he a softie, is there a chance that he didn't want to take the risk of getting caught while killing them? I guess you got what I mean. This part of the character development isn't shown, thus resulting in my frustration. Isn't the whole traitors plot for the character to shine and develop, or is it just a tool to quickly make a comfortable MC for the author to work with?

Plus, can you guarantee that people who you will spare will not put your life or life of your family into danger again and again? If you like to gamble on your safety then here you go. We are truly blessed to be born in the modern society instead of medieval times.

Man, I don't even remember most of what you are talking about by now. However, judging by this paragraph... conditions like just giving a beating to traitors who put your life into danger is very meek, almost like what most protagonists from the japanese harem light novels are doing. So, for me the choice of giving a clean death is more preferable. If they are scum, then giving them some frustration and hope before putting them back into the oblivion is the best.

If MC had to train really hard(harder than others), then even if his training is skipped, he will not be OP for me, cuz he got what he deserved for his efforts. I think there are almost no novels with really OP MC who grow weak-to- strong. Like, OP stands for overpowered and is must be done in all directions. So, I consider MC overpowered if they are geniuses who can memorize all from one glance, can outwit who-knows-how-many-years-old-foggeys, develop at a speed much faster than anyone ever can even without any resources on hands and who are lucky to receive some ultimate cheat power. If you, for example, have equals in your age category you can't be considered OP by definition. Seeking for some miracle drug for hundred chapters just to level up is also a no-no in my eyes. Of course, it is just my opinion. The good example of an OP MC is the one who can beat/kill Outer Gods from Lovecraft Universe as a human without any tricks (though it is not quite possible for them even with tricks).

Sorry for disturbing, but I have to say, that converting energy is not creating it. Like, the food already has some energy in it and by consuming it you are "converting" already existing energy. At least, I think that the energy has a constant value and everything has it. By dying, the energy you have (for example, the heat) just dissipates into the air or is being absorbed by something else. Read more about Energy Conservation Law I guess.
