these kinds of things don't stay quiet and often times even the suspicion is enough for every noble to turn hostile or at least start turning against the royals

I agree but also its because they are so powerful you don't want a huge group of mages right in the heart of your power so wouldn't it make more sense to build a dedicated academic city somewhere close to the capital but not directly inside of it ? also this should be a pretty big academy so it would the city would be tight with the palace and the academy in one city

Just because they don't fight, doesn't mean that there aren't benefits to evolving them! I can scarcely imagine how useful a tier six brood tender would be, every ounce of her evolutionary energy given over to auras and glands that nourish and aid the larvae and pupae. Knowing the System like I do, I wager the young would have all sorts of benefits from being raised by such a tender, higher stats, greater skill levels, perhaps even body parts and organs that perform above their usual specs. - TracelessClouds2yrReplied to Tygon

Champion monsters aren't exactly unknown to me, seeing as Vibrant is one. I spoke to Granin about it, as a passing topic and given that he knows just about everything on the topic of monsters, he had plenty to say. Generally rare, but especially so amongst communal monsters, champions are a distinct threat when encountered by delvers. Smarter, stronger and capable of rallying other monsters around them, these creatures have apparently always been a known quantity in the Dungeon that were better left alone and avoided than confronted head on. Leeroy finally manages to die a glorious death holding back massive hordes of enemies to save his fellow ants' life to only evolve and become a zombie ant so that even after Death Leeroy can still contribute to the colony. Death eludes him once again... HE SEEKS
