I think they are there to remind us to be most careful but to someone with Derek's/Lith's history where he has to worry about accidentally hurting those around him, and the hurt received when he was defenceless, that opens a whole can of worms... No, no, no He is not human, but he is the Guardian Seedling that allows the Loved ones who passed away to come back to protect their family, the Loyal to come back to finish their duty, the Lost to find their way, and the Unforgiven to redeem themselves before moving on. The Lutians and the Queen's Copse can see this. I hope the whole kingdom does too, and Lith accepts himself fully for what he is, Guardian.
