Although the relationship between humans and Orcs wasn't as direct as that with the demonic beasts, it was definitely not harmonious either.

The fusion is like dumping a cup of water into a pot of burning hot oil. The reaction is very fiery hence the pain Tom is going through. Although the reaction is very painful, the fusion happens slowly and the two souls become one. The new soul that resides in Tom riddle's body is now a grey soul. Not good or evil but simply neutral. This type of soul is rare and seldom appears.
