even at the highest levels, being a master at 1 is almost always better . You'll be surprised at how much kicking martial arts is nerfed just because of the environment. In a 1v1 with no interference, with talent and time to train, yes MMA and Muay Thai would be better but it's rare to reach that high a level. If you're starter pack is boxing, you'll still do well with it long term, all you'll need is to just add some kicks but in general boxing is enough. Having boxing as your starting base for strikes is still really good and honestly at the highest level of boxing , styles matter little as you'll likely have rounded out and made up for any lacking flaws. Boxing hand speed is actually a lot faster than you think, you're underestimating boxers hand speed. When you have MMA guys and kickboxers or Muay Thai guys throw hands at their fastest speed, you literally see the the speed difference is extreme. boxers train hands a bunch of different ways and for years, their speed and power is something that almost always puts their hands above other striking style. To build the best fighter in history. IQ Chin Hands Power Speed Kicks footwork Stamina endurance boxers always win the hands and speed category with ease. its not even close. everything else is debatable tho but hand speed is generally accepted to be a boxers bread and butter along with their punch power
and that's another problem. being competent also means you're good but still have many holes in your game. MMA even at the highest level most fighters and people are only really good at 1 thing and average at others. In street fights MMA guys always punch and wrestle because it's the easiest and most effective in random situations. An MMA guy, kickboxing guy would still need to have a good environment to use all their skills effectively. A boxer and Muay Thai guy would be more effective in general
this is a street fight scenario. Speed is far far better simply because you dnt want to be fighting for long. If you ever been in a street fight or gang fights, you'll know they you want to punch and get space asap. Boxing and wrestling as a foundation is the best minimum for a street fight. IF we're talking about the best to learn long term then MMA is obviously the best answer. But if we're literally talking about a starting point or a minimum starter pack, then boxing or wreastling is the best. It's easier and faster to learn, less techniques to learn with more variety, safer and efficient. Boxing is the best, unless you have a lot of time to learn and master other techniques. Even now, a high level boxer would be better on the streets just because it's safer and better to use when you're getting jumped or in a 1v1. Boxing or wrestling is better and it's much easier and faster to get better at these than it is to get into MMA. if you have time and you're competent then learn MMA but as a starting point, boxing or Wrestling is almost always enough.
you'll actually be surprised how effective boxing is. The thing about kicking is you need lots of space and you're limited in the type of kick because kicking in a crowded area is risky, going for a high kick is risky too. Boxing is the best striking for random street fighting because your hands are the best tools you have and it's the part you have full control and more familiar with. A boxer when he fights on the streets, he almost always fights without rules, the only thing a boxer keeps is the timing, range, how to load up, how to block, how to counter and the quickness of his hands. boxers have far superior hands, they don't need techniques, they just throw it and usually knows rhe person out immediately. On the streets people throw punches first and grapple second, kicking is very rare just because a street fight has no rules. kickboxing, MMA , Muay Thai might not have as much "restrictions" but they do have a lot more movement and techqniques, so the risks are higher and they also require a good environment. Fight in an alley and the boxer is at the advantage, fight on uneven surface the boxer has the advantage, fight in a crowd the boxer has the advantage. If it's a random street fight in a random area then boxing is better by far, just because your hands react faster to sudden changes then your kicking. if it's a street fight with lots of space and the ground isn't slippery or uneven then MMA striking would be good . overall, boxing and wrestling are the 2 safest and best proven methods for a street fight. MMA is also good but not always necessary. A street fight is just always messy and chaotic and you don't really want to be in contact with the opponent for long and you don't want to do high risk attacks like kicks, you want to hit/punch/jab and back out immediately etc.
more Jon snow glaze, ignore this story🤦🏻♂️
most overrated character ever.
not really. Boxing is one of the best styles to know for street fighting. Wrestling first and boxing 2nd. Boxing is restrictive only in sports but when you use it on the street you're not restricted at all, your punches are likely to land cleaner, faster and you'll be better defensively. Boxing can be really flexible when you don't use rules, and boxers are genuinely better defensively and can react faster plus if you aren't used to punching often, you'll likely break your hand. hand breaks are very common in Street fights and that's cause people don't realize just how hard it is to actually throw a punch. Most people in the streets will either try to tackle you or throw a shitty right hand. If you're a well trained boxer who has trained hands and eyes, you can easily end the fight very quick. You're not likely to run into many trained people on the streets, having boxing and or wrestling is enough for daily experiences. The streets have different environments so you might have a lot of space or it might be very cramped, which can affect kicks. End of the day, wrestling is the best to have as a base and boxing is 2nd so having boxing as a base isn't bad
Grapplers have takedowns. Grapplers from judo, BJJ, sambo and wrestling all have different takedowns for different positions and situations. It's already something boxers and fighters have acknowledged, in a street fight being a grappler gives you a huge advantage, just cause more than 90% of street fights end with clinching or both fighters grappling.
