I think it is her dragon. Whatever was in the box broke the curse that keeps the females from being dragons.

She is saying it to make sure she doesn’t hurt the man she loves. Basically a warning to not mess up or else.

I wonder if she is starting to shift into a dragon. Remember the story about female dragons being blocked from shifting by magic. I bet that was true and the magic from the box somehow unlocked her ability to shift.

Her dragon probably despises her weakness. I think the magic from the box woke it up and so it doesn’t know the full pain she has been through.
