Actually I can sorta understand why he decided to donate it directly instead of just leaving it in his will. Donating it directly gives him that immediate emotional feedback I.e I can see my money leaving me and I feel good because I’ve done a good thing. Instead of, I feel good becauss I’m going to do a good thing. (And I’m dead so whats there to feel). Writing a will is also not just about the practical nature of the distribution of his assets. From an emotional perspsctive, it’s about coming to terms with the fact that he might die/ going to die, so he is ready to take the gamble of taking Cthullu Pharmaceuticals.
