They don't have that technique, i guess the Legion would have set it up in the other city they would 't want to have such a technique in the hands of commoners just to have it snatched by monsters if the city falls who would in their turn build their own cities. That'd be the nightmare of the Legion.

It'll help the colony. Don't forget that even though those NEW born monsters are from lower strata, they aren't as strong nor as experienced as the Legion. This will have the effect that: 1) As soon as the Legion backs off they can take the corpses and equipment from the fallen = biomass and more goodies. 2) The Ants can now use their new experience from fighting against the Legion to effectively fight the wave monsters by using actual tactics. 3) There is a high chance that a part of the monsters will encounter the Legion first and take off some of that steam from thw Ants (probably the stone people too). 4) TORPOR xD
