As cameras and communication technology have gotten better, basically since the invention of radio, this kind of extremist "capitalism" has grown rarer and rarer. It's not gone, but most of it is done by state actors now. The autocratic regimes are the worst in terms of scale, but the representative governments do it too in black programs and with corrupt representatives' cooperation.
