It was that snake, and he seemed to be watching everything that just happened here.
"If you are this free already, why didn't you show up to help?" Arthur chuckled, as he slightly blamed this sly snake for hiding when the flying monsters appeared and attacked here a couple of days ago.
"You didn't need my help, you are more capable of handling them yourself," the middle aged voice appeared again, before a great snake showed itself in front of him.
That rapid move was something he didn't detect, and he didn't know if that snake had other abilities, like shape shifting or something.
"You are here for the treasure?" Arthur asked, faking ignorance.
"Sure, you were about to call me, right?" the snake said, while he kept his eyes over the treasure, "but that piece you gave to the scorpion isn't enough for me, I want the rest of that treasure, all of it," he added, with much more greed than Arthur expected.
"That won't do," Arthur shook his head, as he moved to stand in front of the rock, hiding it behind him, "you can have double the amount that scorpion had."
"No, double is too low, I can leave the same part you gave to him, that would be enough for that scorpion's later growth."
"No, the most I can do is triple that size, nothing more."
"Triple is low, I can recede to half of this rock."
Arthur went silent for a moment before nodding while saying:
"I can give you that, but I won't give you any elixirs or icy ores."
"Ah? Why this discrimination? You helped that scorpion with much more than she asked for!"
Arthur didn't know why he felt a tinge of envy here, plus more greed. "She is a pet, a monster I can summon and order around, but not like you. You can just leave me the next moment you evolve, and not come back! Investing any more in you would be a loss for me."
"But you have my word, and I always abide by it!" the snake refused to let this matter go, as the comparison between him and the scorpion ignited something deeply residing within him.
"Words do no use for me," Arthur said, feeling glad he managed to push this sly snake into his trap, "if you can give me something to guarantee your loyalty and obedience to me, I won't hesitate to further help you."
His words startled the snake, who seemed to hesitate about this matter. At this moment, and before this snake could jump out of the deep trap Arthur had pushed him, Arthur took out one icy potion, and one icy ore, and played with them in his hands, enticing the deep desire of having them inside that snake's soul.
"Ok, what bond do you want me to make with you? Let me warn you, having me as a pet won't work as I will evolve to be a human, negating any pet contract!"
Arthur's eyes shone brightly despite him trying not to show his excitement. He knew from before any pet contract wouldn't work on this highly evolving monster, and he just had in mind the perfect way to do it.
"It's another way of contracting, called the fellowship contract," he said, trying to coat the slave contract with another nice wording, "see, this way you will be my follower, in human shape you will have," he added, before throwing the last piece he had, "and this way you can travel with me all over the world, have all the adventures you might like, and also will make many friends."
The greedy eyes of that snake shone brightly when he heard these words. Arthur knew such a monster lived his life solo, without the friendship of any other, monster or human.
That was the reason why this monster agreed to be a human, ditching the hard and lonelier path of breaking free from this realm, aiming to gain many friends and have fun with them, like humans did.
This wasn't the first human evolved monster Arthur had met, as when he was a cultivator he met many like this snake; all were lonely; all thought friendship.
"Alright, do the contract then and let's get started," the snake said, in an extreme excitation, which didn't suit the tone of the middle aged man he was using.
Arthur didn't delay any more, as he took out his tools, wrote on the icy nature ores he just obtained, making a huge pile of runes of them.
He also noticed from far away the observing keen looks of Noura, but he just leaned on the ground of that carcass, hiding what he was doing from her.
He made seven hundred groups of ores, each consisted of seven pieces. Half had the word 'Slave' written on them, and the other half had the word 'master' on them.
After he finished, he distributed the groups on the ground, while surrounding the area the snake stood at with the slave runes, while surrounding his area with master runes.
Once he finished, he looked to the snake as he said:
"I will start the contract now, you will feel a stinging pain on part of your body, while a tattoo will appear there. don't be startled and just endure."
"Humph," the snake just harrumphed with pride, as if he was caring about pain in his stage.
"Contract activated!"
Arthur gave the word, and the next moment the runes and the blood used to write on them, the bronzed giant blood, shone brightly, before they two were covered by an opaque shield of dark red color. Inside this shield, the snake kept screaming out of pain, while Arthur was astonished at how fragile he was!
The process didn't last for more than ten minutes, and after the shield disappeared, and the runes were burnt down to dust, a pair of tattoos appeared on Arthur and the snake.
At the moment of this tattoo appearing, and just moments before the shield subsided, the snake picture got some haziness, and Arthur saw a mesmerizing form of a very stunning female standing in front of him.
However this picture didn't last longer than a moment, making him doubt himself about if it really happened or not.

Su Ping opened his eyes at once. Before him was a bleak mountain forest with no signs of civilization. He could look directly into the vast space with countless stars above his head.
Su Ping took a quick look around. He exhaled in relief after making sure that there were no monsters of any kind. Then, he asked the system in his mind, "I heard you say 30 free deaths. Shouldn't it be unlimited times?"
"Of course not," The system answered indifferently, "The benefit of unlimited times is exclusive to the beginner's quest. Currently, the host has finished that quest and therefore is no longer eligible for that benefit!"
"Also, after the beginner's protection for one month, the host will no longer be granted free deaths. Therefore, the host must improve his abilities as soon as possible, or else it will be difficult for the host to move a single step in the future!"
Su Ping was stunned. He found this hardly understandable. "So, according to you, what will happen to me when I can no longer enjoy free deaths? Will I just drop dead, literally?"
He didn't have the confidence to say that he would never die, not even once, in a horrifying place like the Thunder Cloud Realm!
"The host can purchase chances for deaths with energy points and the price is one tenth of the price of that corresponding cultivation plane. When the times of available deaths return to zero, the host will be forcefully teleported back to the main world," the system explained.
"They can be purchased?" Secretly, Su Ping sighed in relief with this new information. That would be reasonable.
Roar!
All of a sudden, a violent roar came from the distance, just like a sudden clap of thunder.
Caught off guard, Su Ping bent over. Then he saw that across the sky on the horizon, the clouds and mist were dyed red as if something were burning. It seemed that a fierce battle had broken out under that sky!
"My God, the roar was so loud. Not even a king of beasts could be this loud…" Su Ping's heart was pounding. Without hesitation, he turned around and soon ran to the other side of the forest.
He ran for a few hundred meters.
Bang!
A shrill cry was suddenly heard. Su Ping only had enough time to turn his head. In his sight, there appeared a ferocious mouth moving in closer.
He blacked out.
Su Ping knew that he had died before he could experience the pain.
To make it worse, he didn't even have the chance to see what killed him.
There was something he was sure of, though. His body must have been eaten up by that thing.
"Does a cultivation plane that costs one energy point have to be this terrifying? What the hell…" Su Ping had nothing else to say. How long had he been in here? He died an unnatural death without doing anything. This was such a sudden death!
"I am too vulnerable…"
Su Ping felt worn out already. He was just a common person. Some monsters that were skilled in hiding could be concealed in the dark. There was no way that he could have noticed them. Maybe he would be just sending himself to the mouth of those monsters…
He saw a prompt message. "Revival on the spot/revival at a random spot?"
Su Ping rolled his eyes. He didn't even know his own actual state after death. He had no tangible body but with a force of habit, he chose "revival at a random spot."
White, glaring light flooded over from all sides. He had a better sight after that jump.
Soon, he could see his surroundings. This time, he found himself on a desolate hillside with sparse weeds. There were no monsters around.
"Wait a minute. Is that…?"
All of a sudden, Su Ping saw a pile of rocks trembling in the distance. Upon a closer look, he felt his whole body break out with gooseflesh.
That was no pile of rocks. It was a python that had a body built with rocks!

While Su Ping was gazing into the distance, information about this python suddenly jumped to mind. Su Ping's pupils contracted as he saw the rank. This was a pet of the eighth rank!
But, this eighth-rank Winding Stone Snake had a poor aptitude. Su Ping had not seen anything like this before. This python had to be one of the weaker amongst its peers with a combat strength of hardly above eight.
"Run!"
Su Ping turned around and prepared to run away at once. He kept on mumbling, "It cannot see me."
The moment he turned around, he cast a glance through the corners of his eyes. He stopped on the spot at once.
"Scarlet Stone Fruit?"
Four or five meters ahead of him, there was a plant growing out from the stone cracks. It was a small tree that was about half a meter tall with a cluster of fire red fruits which were shaped like raindrops. Those fruits were the size of beans and they were dangling in the wind.
It was as if he had known about this plant since a long time ago. Much information about this plant surged in his mind, including the functions and growth cycles, etc.
What interested Su Ping enough to stop was the fact that this was the Vermilion Bird's favorite food!
"Pet food?" Su Ping was lost in his thoughts. He didn't know that he could find pet food right there under his nose. He had to thank the "Aeon Plant Identification Spell" the system had granted him temporarily. Because of this, such knowledge would prevent him from missing out.
That being said…
The expressions on Su Ping's face changed as he looked at the wiggling Winding Stone Snake in the distance.
After a mere moment of hesitation, Su Ping had made up his mind. He dashed out from behind the rock all of a sudden and ran toward that "Scarlet Stone Fruit," throwing caution to the wind.
He picked up the Scarlet Stone Fruit plant violently. However, its roots were quite firmly set. Since he had overexerted his strength, some of the thorns stabbed his palm, inflicting a dull pain.
"Collect into the storage space. Yes or no?" the system queried.
"Yes!"
Su Ping answered without further thought.
The Scarlet Stone Fruit plant vanished from his hand instantly. At the same time, in his mind, he felt there was an addition of a virtual space with a small area and the Scarlet Stone Fruit plant was floating around inside.
"Is this the storage space?" Su Ping took a look and heaved a sigh of relief.
Hiss, hiss!
Unexpectedly, the ground around him began to tremble.
Su Ping raised his head. In the distance, the Winding Stone Snake had lifted its head as well and was staring at Su Ping.
"Run!"
Without further ado, Su Ping turned around and began to run at once, even though he knew the chances of him escaping were very low.
More than a dozen seconds passed.
"Revival on the spot/revival at a random spot?"
The system presented him with the choices again. It went without saying that Su Ping didn't make it. He was swallowed by the smelly mouth of this Winding Stone Snake and was squeezed to death.
He even felt the pain was surreal when he was falling apart.
Su Ping grimaced in pain. Even to this moment, he was still shivering uncontrollably, as if he had been running nude in the chilly wind.
"Well, that wasn't entirely fruitless…" Su Ping felt comforted that at the very least, he had harvested some food. It was painful but whose life wasn't?
"I have 28 more chances left. If I can harvest some food right before I die every time, I believe I can probably fill up half of the storage space…" Su Ping thought to himself. He was looking forward to the rest of the journey.
Su Ping made his choice. "Revival at a random spot."
Consciousness came back to his body again. But as soon as he was brought back to life, he felt a bone piercing coldness. He looked around, only to see that he was floating in water.
"What random spot is this?" Su Ping was astonished. He turned around. Some monsters that looked like crocodiles were closing in slowly.
"I…"
Su Ping was given no chances to struggle. In the blink of an eye, the crocodiles sprang at him and tore him into pieces.
"Revival on the spot/revival at a random spot?"
"…Random."
"Random."
"Random…"
Repeated deaths and repeated revivals.
Sometimes, he would be killed right after he was brought back to life. Sometimes, he would only encounter monsters after he had harvested special pet food.
Soon, the 30 free revival chances were used up.
"Phew…"
Su Ping felt he had been gone for ages when the light came back to his sight and the familiar environment of the store leaped to his eyes. On one hand, he could put his mind at ease. On the other, he felt sorry for that to end.
"I believe this was a rewarding harvest." Su Ping looked at the pet food filling up the storage space in his mind. He was content. In terms of quantity alone, it was very abundant. But he didn't know how the system would price them.
"Are you going to set a price on the pet food and sell them?" The system asked.
"Yes."
Su Ping answered immediately.
Soon, the pet food in the storage space vanished into thin air. Then, Su Ping saw there were some jars and containers on the shelf behind the counter in the store, or something that appeared to be a potted landscape. With no exception, all of them were packed with the pet food that he had harvested at the risk of his life.
"Scorching Fish Seeker, 380 coins per plant."
"Fire and Ice Snakegrass, 800 coins per plant."
"Scarlet Stone Fruit, 130 coins per fruit."
…


What’s not to love about my new life after transmigrating into a Pet-centered world?
There are mighty creatures that come in all shapes and sizes. They can either be cuddly companions, helpers in your daily life, daring scouts or strong fighters. Or all of the above. Not bad, huh?

Welcome to the World of Astral Pets!

The Scorching Amber Canyon was located by the north side of the Rainbow Village. While Zhang Yang was flying towards the canyon from afar, he could see Harpies gliding around the sky above the canyon. Their numbers was so shockingly high that they blotted out the sun! It looked like they were building an army or something.
These Harpies had bodies and faces of normal humans. However, their feet were the claws of the birds. The tips of their claws were so sharp that they could easily crush rocks! Their arms were actually their large wings which kept them in the air.
These Harpies were all female. They were basically naked. Some feathers covered up the vital parts of their chest and the part in between their legs. Well, it was an enchanting scene to gaze upon, for men! Well, their waistlines were perfect. Their boobies were simply glorious! Their hips were so desirable! The perfect curves were definitely present on every single one of them. If you omit the fact that they had those claws and wings, every single one of them could potentially be hot and beautiful women!
These Harpies were called after the name of ‘Crimson Fire Harpy’ for one simple reason. Their wings were so red that they looked like they were on fire, fire that was blazing hot that anything close to them might get scorched immediately. It was really a marvelous vision to gaze upon. However, they did not seem to be marvelous anymore when they are compared to Zhang Yang’s Phoenix pet.

[Wail]: Causes the target to run blindly in terror. Lasts for 10 seconds.
[Scorching Burns]: Scorches the target and afflicts the target with Burn Effect. Causes 30,000 Fire Damage to the target.
Upon reading the description of the Skills, Zhang Yang could only frown intensely. Those Skills had effects that could potentially give him a hard time if he lures too many monsters over to him. If the monsters could chain up a consecutive Status Restriction Effect on him, he would be as good as dead, even if he has over 1,000,000,000 HP!
From that perspective, the most difficult part about battling a boss was the fact that the boss would mostly not be affected by Status Restriction Skills.
{Spear of Obliteration}!
Zhang Yang struck one of the Harpies that was wandering by the bottom of the mountain. The Harpy was annoyed for being struck straight in the face. It immediately let out a screech and charged towards Zhang Yang, reaching out with its sharp claws.
Felice had already transformed into her Dragonhawk Form before Zhang Yang had launched his assaults on the monster. She launched her {Fire Missle} at the Harpy. The Phoenix pet did not stay idly by the corner. It also spat out flames straight on the Harpy and caused a tremendous amount of damage to it. With these two crazily powerful attackers, the Harpy lost approximately 90,000 HP in an instant1
"Argh!" The strike from the Harpy’s claws was blocked by Zhang Yang with his shield. Well, he did activate {Block}. In the meantime, Zhang Yang swung his axe and caused nearly 84,000 damage to the Harpy the moment its claws made contact with Zhang Yang’s shield. The Harpy was in so much pain that it screamed and trembled. Feathers were falling off its wings as the thunderous blow rolled past it.
{God of War Devastation}!
‘-258,902!’
The Rage Bar had hit its ceiling cap at the moment. Zhang Yang had no reason to hold back at all. He struck the Harpy with his {God of War Devastation} and caused a damage that was nearly 3 times of his Melee Attack. That was quite some damage he did there!
Even though the Harpy had over 2,700,000 HP, it could not sustain so much damage like how it did back there! It let out a deafening screech and a visible supersonic wave forced its way into Zhang Yang’s brain. Zhang Yang felt a sting in his head. Immediately, he lost control over his own body and ran around while he was riding on the back of his Phoenix pet.
{Warrior’s Will}!
Without a doubt, he activated his Skill to break himself free from the Terror Effect. Then, he carried on dealing damage to the Harpy that had gone berserk.
"Phew!" The Harpy did not cease its assaults on Zhang Yang. It immediately spat out endless flames. Unfortunately, it could cause merely 16,204 damage on Zhang Yang even though it had over 30,000 basic damage. Zhang Yang had over 800,000 HP after mounting onto the Phoenix pet. So, 16,204 damage was just a piece of cake for him.
Zhang Yang was launching his assaults on the Harpy like he was chopping vegetables. He was also supported by Felice and his Phoenix pet as well. With the three of them dealing a substantial amount of damage to the Harpy, the Harpy was losing its HP faster than it could breathe!
The cooldown of {Wail} was 1 minute. Meanwhile, Zhang Yang ony required lesser time than that in order for him to remove a total amount of 2,700,000 HP. Furthermore, he had help from Felice and the Phoenix pet. The Harpy was taken down to the ground by the three of them in less than half a minute. Zhang Yang earned quite a substantial amount of Experience Points after slaying the Harpy.
As the game progresses on, the difference between the performance of a normal player and the performance of a high Tier player would differ more and more. Usually, it would take about a party of 5 normal players to take on this kind of monster. It would be essential for the party to have a Tanker, A Healer and two DPS players in order to slowly deplete the HP of this monster. However, higher Tiered players do no need to worry about their own HP bars at all. They only needed to make sure they could deal as much damage as possible to the monster before their own HP bars goes empty.
Under the current circumstance, Zhang Yang only lost approximately 110,000 HP. He only lost 14% HP as he was mounted on his pet. With that much HP, Zhang Yang could take on 7 of these Harpies before being forced to take some [Snacks] or [Bandages] to recover his HP.
‘Ding! You have acquired an item: Crimson Fire Harpy’s Feather X 3!’
The first few monsters he slew had dropped the very quest item he was searching for. However, the quest required Zhang Yang to collect 1,000 feathers. It seemed that this quest would get Zhang Yang going about in the jungle for quite a while.
Zhang Yang had also wondered if there was a possibility of a boss existing among these massive flock of Harpies. Zhang Yang went on to lure a second Harpy over to him as he had such thoughts on his mind. However, he soon realized that it was unlikely that a boss would exist among a massive horde of monsters.
If he takes on one monster at a time, it would not even be a challenge for Zhang Yang to take down that one monster. However, if Zhang Yang lures too many monsters over to him at the same time, he would be in deep trouble if the monsters chain up their Status Restriction Skills on him perpetually. {Wail} could last for 10 seconds, and it had a cooldown period of 1 minute. Hence, having 6 of these Harpies chaining up their Status Restriction Skills consecutively on him would be enough to lock Zhang Yang in until he is tortured to death!
No one could afford to challenge a bunch of monsters with Status Restriction Skills!
Zhang Yang shook his head and continued on gathering the feathers.
The quest did not request that Zhang Yang slays any specific monsters in order to get the feathers. Therefore, he did not go deeper into the canyon. He only wandered around by the outer skirt of the canyon. Well, as long as he slays a Harpy, there will be a possibility of the quest item dropping. He had no reason to risk his own life venturing deeper into the canyon all by himself.
More than three hours later, Zhang Yang finally gathered 1,000 Harpy’s feathers. He headed straight to Rainbow Village to hand in the feathers.
"You indeed have the blood of the great Wild Boarman flowing in your veins!" Shabu tapped on Zhang Yang’s shoulder and praised, "May the great Canaans bless you always!"
‘Ding! You have completed a quest: Gather the Feathers. You have received a reward: 5,000,000 Experience Points!’
Although it was not much of a reward to receive, Experience Points were hard to come by these days. It would be better than getting nothing at all.
"Zhan Yu, we can’t just stop here. Not yet! We must hustle up and do our best! I need you to collect 20 Complete Snake Bones of the Onibi Coastal Taipan. Well, they’re snakes. By having their bones, I think we can finally get that Sacred Keepsake!" Shabu was filled with a sense of joy.
‘Ding! Shabu Canaans has a quest for you: Collect the Snake Bones. Will you accept?’
Zhang Yang nodded and said, "My respected Chief, just sit tight and wait for my return with good news!"
"You’re the warrior of the Wild Boarmen, the pride of our Rainbow Village! I believe that you will prevail!" Shabu Canaans raised his piglet nose while talking with pride. It seemed that he actually believed deeply in everything he just said!
Zhang Yang left in begrudgingly as there was no way for him to get through to that wild boarman. He made haste out of the village and went straight for the Blue Water Pond located by the east side of the village.
It was a vast water pond. The water of the pond was aquamarine in color and there was no telling down deep the pond would be, because the water was not crystal clear. The surface of the pond looked frosty, though. Cold vapor was rising from the surface of the water, freezing the air above the pool. The process formed a mist above the surface of the pool. The scene was spectacular to gaze upon. However, that spectacular scene was ruined a little by the ‘infestation’ of countless python-like creatures. The smallest of them all were at least tens of meters long. Their bodies were as thick as the mouth of a large bowl. Meanwhile, the large ones were about 40 to 50 meters long. Their bodies were as thick as the waist of a grownup man! They looked like small mountains when they curled themselves and rested by the water pond!

[Tail Whip]: Whips the target with its powerful tail of steel, causing 100% Melee Attack of Physical Damage to the target.
[Bind]: Binds the target with its snaky body. If the target cannot deal 300,000 damage to the Onibi Coastal Taipan, the target will die of suffocation. On the contrary, if the target could deal 300,000 damage to the Onibi Coastal Taipan in time, the monster will unbind from the target.
These monsters actually had an Ultimate Skill?! What the hell!
If a player gets themself tangled up by one of the snakes, they would have to deal 300,000 damage to the Onibi Coastal Taipan or they’d be dead! That would require a DPS of 30,000 damage! It would not be a problem if there is a party around. However, if there are only one or two players in that situation, it would be extremely difficult to deal so much damage over the span of 10 seconds.

Well, 5 players were required at the very least to be able to deal such an amount of damage.
The moment when Onibi Coastal Taipan arrived in front of Zhang Yang, it activated its {Bind} straight away. The thick body of the snake curled around Zhang Yang and wrapped him up tightly.
Slash! Slice! Slash!
Zhang Yang swung the battle axe repeatedly at the body of the snake as hard as he could. The damage values popped out one after another, as Zhang Yang slashed the snake up. Meanwhile, Felice and Phoenix pet did not just remain idle. They also fired away.
In just 5 seconds, Zhang Yang, Felice and Phoenix pet managed to deal 300,000 damage to the snake. The Coastal Taipan loosened up its body and activated its {Tail Whip} straight away on Zhang Yang.
Zhang Yang raised his shield and blocked the whip attack from the snake’s tail. His Strength attribute was way beyond the Strength of the Coastal Taipan. Even though the Coastal Taipan came at Zhang Yang with an imposing figure, Zhang Yang did not flinch at all. He stood his ground firmly while battling against the monster.
"Stinky snake! Just die!" Felice imitated Wei Yan Er and scolded the snake as she was launching her assaults at the snake. She did not forget to add in some phrases and words in-between her attacks.
"Hiss!" The Coastal Taipan hissed out its tongue and launched its assaults on Zhang Yang once again.
As long as Zhang Yang is able to break free of the {Bind}, a Coastal Taipan appeared to be easier to kill than a Harpy. One main reason was that when the Coastal Taipan activated its {Bind}, it would not be able to launch any other assaults. It would be standing still for others to hit it for free. Therefore, the Coastal Taipan could deal much lesser damage to Zhang Yang than a Harpy could!
Back then when he was battling against the Harpies, he would need to take his [Snacks] to recover his HP after taking down 7 of them. However, he could take down more than 10 Coastal Taipans before he is required to take his [Snacks]. His efficiency had increased by 50%!
However, even though every Coastal Taipan would drop a Snake Bone upon their deaths, not every snake would drop a Complete Snake Bone. Some were either broken or damaged. Although the quest only required Zhang Yang to collect 20 Complete Snake Bones, it still kept him going for more than 3 hours in order to collect enough number of the quest items. The quest was not much simpler compared to the previous one.

One of them looked around and said, "Old Ji, didn't you say there were fox demons hiding out here? Why aren't they here?"
The old man beside him was stunned and quickly hurried into the cave to investigate. His nose wiggled then he answered, "Old Pan, you know I never lie. This place still has a fox demon's aura lingering around. Perhaps they're not back yet, or maybe they left after sensing danger in the air."
Old Pan scoffed. "Old Ji, you mentioned that one of the fox demons has mastered transformation and is currently in the form of a young woman. But transformation spells have been extinct for many years now, not to mention the dwindling number of monsters over time. Do you know how improbable it is to stumble into a monster who knows transformation? Shouldn't you come up with a more reasonable lie?"
"But it's true! If I'm lying about this, may I die without a burial ground," Old Ji swore out of desperation.
"Forget it. I don't care if it's real or fake. The fox demon you've mentioned isn't here so it most probably escaped. If we want to search for it, it'll definitely take time. We better head into Maple City first and finish up our business here." There was a hint of viciousness in Old Pan's tone. Unwilling to defy his companion's suggestion, Old Ji reluctantly gave up on the fox demons for now.
Both men hurried over to Maple City and discreetly entered the city.
"Old Ji, you head over to the Zu Manor and steal that Jiuying snake and I'll defeat that monster you said was hiding in the well of a broken-down temple. Try not to alert the city's experts or it'll be troublesome." After Old Pan was done giving out instructions, he led his spotted python to the run-down temple while Old Ji headed for the Zu Manor.
However, when Old Ji returned with his task accomplished, Old Pan was nowhere to be seen. 
"What's going on?" Old Ji got anxious. It was only a matter of time for the Zu Manor to notice their missing pet beast and although he was using a costly 'beast control amulet' to subdue the Jiuying snake, the time limit was quickly running out. Once the time-limit was exceeded, the amulet loses effect and he couldn't control the Jiuying snake anymore.
"Old Pan is skilled and even has his Rank 2 spotted python with him. There shouldn't have been any hiccups!" Old Ji murmured to himself as he removed his mask. If Lin Jin were here, he'd definitely recognize this old man with the surname Ji to be the one competing with Zu Can for the two-headed snake during the beast auction.
Being skilled in beast appraising, this old guy even had an amazing artifact that helps him detect monsters' auras. Back when he was strolling around Maple City, his artifact detected there was a monster in the well of a run-down temple. Based on the monster's aura, he deduced the creature to be only a Rank 1 monster.
Although monsters were horrifying, these creatures were covered in gems. Everything from their flesh, blood, to bones could be used as ingredients for making medicine. However, as it was a Rank 1 monster, Old Ji was afraid he couldn't handle things on his own so he had 'Old Pan' help him out.
Old Pan had been a notorious pirate, a seasoned veteran in close-quarters combat. He was also a long-time friend of Old Ji's.
Both of them had agreed that for this mission, they would seize both the Zu family's Jiuying snake and the Rank 1 monster. Both creatures could earn them thousands of gold and with that, they could live the rest of their lives worry-free.
Things had gone well on his end but evidently not so for Old Pan.
Feeling helpless, Old Ji could only head toward the run-down temple with both pet beasts.
He sensed something off the moment he arrived.
The demonic aura here was too dense.
Continuing inside, Old Ji found fresh bloodstains on the ground. There were no signs of Old Pan anywhere nor were there signs of any other living creatures.
"This is odd!"
When he came to the well, Old Ji found the huge stone initially covering the well to have fallen to the side. Someone must have moved it. Meanwhile, there were more bloodstains around the well, which indicated that there was a struggle here.
"Old Pan! Old Pan!" Old Ji shouted. When there was no response, he began to panic.
All this while when he and Old Pan teamed up for this kind of dirty work, they had never failed. Old Pan in particular was a ruthless man who killed without emotions. As long as there was money involved, the man could do anything.
Old Pan could be described as brave and meticulous. He had once captured a monster before so that was considered a valuable experience. Hence, even if he came across trouble, the man could at least escape. But now, it seemed like an accident had happened.
Staring at the bloodstains and scratches around the well, Old Ji got more unsettled.
He planned to leave.
Old Pan was a good friend but with these traces here, the man was probably a goner. Old Ji could at least burn him some Hell money[1] when he got back.
With this thought in mind, Old Ji was about to retreat.
But all of a sudden, he heard noises coming from the well. Old Ji turned back out of reflex to see Old Pan trying hard to climb up the well with his face covered in blood.
Old Pan's life was obviously hanging by a thread without even the energy to call out for help.
With his quick reflexes, Old Ji quickly pulled Old Pan out of the well.
Old Pan was in a tragic state. His clothes were battered and his body was covered in wounds still oozing blood. The man looked ghastly pale.
Old Ji glanced back before asking, "Old Pan, what happened? Where is your pet beast?"
"It died. F*ck this sh*t! Don't ask, quick! Take me away from this place." The terrified look on Old Pan's face made Old Ji shudder. They hurried outside, but just a few steps later, they heard sounds behind them. Turning back, they saw a massive black anaconda slithering out of the well.
The black anaconda was covered in demonic energy with hostility gleaming in its eyes.
Old Ji began to tremble. Skilled in beast evaluation, he could obviously tell that this snake monster was more than Rank 1.
No doubt, they had made a miscalculation.
Run!
But they couldn't run.
Holding onto Old Pan, Old Ji couldn't get far. And even if they ran with all their might, they wouldn't be faster than the black snake. When he heard the wind blowing behind them, out of desperation, Old Ji performed a spell and had his pet beast initiate an attack.
They didn't have much of a choice.
However, he then heard a weird noise as if bones were being broken. Old Ji turned to glance and his eyes almost popped out of their sockets.
His pet beast, a Rank 2 sabertooth panther was being constricted by the black snake into a dough twist[2]. From the looks of it, the bones inside his black panther's body were completely broken.
This was too horrifying.
Old Ji reacted decisively. He simply cast Old Pan aside and fled on his own.
At such a crucial time, any talk about brotherhood or friendship was just garbage. Moreover, Old Ji had been putting up with Old Pan's cold-hearted nature for a long time now so how could he risk his life for such a person?
His own survival was much more important.
As he ran, he kept stuttering, "A Rank 2… that's definitely a Rank 2 monster… How could there be a Rank 2 monster in this Maple City? It's over… Everything's over…"
Old Pan who was pushed to the ground had no tears left to cry. He didn't even have the energy to curse out loud. One of his legs had been crushed by the black snake earlier and now felt like a limp noodle. He couldn't even stand up. Just as he managed to crawl a few steps away, the black snake swallowed him whole.
Old Ji didn't dare to look back. He was running as fast as he could but deep inside, he knew that his speed couldn't match up to the black snake at all. The creature could easily cover a fifty to sixty feet distance with just one slither. When he sensed a gust of wind blowing behind him, Old Ji rolled over and burrowed under the debris of a dilapidated temple.
Just like a frantically escaping rat.
He couldn't care for anything else now. Any hole would do.
As for resistance…
He wouldn't even think of it. His Rank 2 pet beast suffered immediate death after one blow so how could he even fight back?
Hiding under collapsed beams and broken bricks, Old Ji trembled uncontrollably. He was genuinely terrified. He wanted nothing more than to survive right now.

But he was curious. Although he didn't have the courage to come out, he had enough to poke his head out to see what was going on.
The moonlight elongated the silhouette of two people on the ground.
From the shadows, he could tell that it was a man and a woman.

"Young Miss, we have arrived." Informed by the female servant. Mei Xiang open her eyes from her nap to confirm if they were really home. She lifted up the curtain in her carriage and take a peep at the window.

She saw the big manor of her father and a few guards, guarding it. She smiled and go down from the carriage. She didn't accept the maids hand to help her go down the carriage. She walks directly to the manor's gate while the old spokesman informed her arrival.

"The second Young Miss has arrived!" He said in a very old and slow way that makes her cringe. Why they should said it in such a loud but slow way?

Her father and sister duo heard it and they immediately go after her and give her a tight, warm, and welcoming hug. My gosh! Mei Xiang's dad and sis are so sweet that I envy her!

She hug back and smile. She really did missed them. They may be a pain in the ass, but she loves them as how the real Mei Xiang do. I wish I have this kind of family from my past life. But its not so I must embrace this life for Mei Xiang and me, Da Xiu.

Mei Xiang break free from the long hug with a smile in her lips. Five words escape in her mouth.

"Father, sister, I am back."

"You are really back, my beautiful daughter." Mei Xiang nod and smile at them.

While walking to her courtyard with her sister she felt something, no, someone that is looking at her. Actually she had noticed it too when she was going out of the forest. Is it the man in black? Yeah, whatever. As that man in the black doesn't do anything that can harm her and her family it's good to her.

"Meimei, how is your training in the Ya Lin?" Ask by her sister.

"It's superb jiejie. I can do martial arts now!" She said cheerfully. Her sister smiled and pat her head.

"That's good. My sister must be so powerful now!"

"Hmmm.... Jiejie...."

"Yes, Meimei?"

"I want to go to the market and buy some stuffs there." Mei Xiang said. Then there is a snake that come out from her sleeves that makes Bo Yang startled.

"Ahh! Snake!" Mei Xiang laugh hard, forgetting her ethics. Her sister have not familiarized with her snake.

"Big sis. It is my pet, the cobra remember?"

"It's still alive?!" She said like she can't believe what she is seeing. Like seriously? Does she know the life cycle of a snake? And OMG! She is hurting my ego as a pet lover. She is literally looking at my snake with ridicule.

Revealing Samantha to Bannon, she heard the little boys breathing become heavier.

He started to shake a little but remained relatively still.

When his sister had said 'Don't scream' he was certianly expecting her to show him a weapon, or maybe some candy, then when he heard the 'She won't hurt you' part he thought it must be a bee or some type of rodent.

He certianly did not expect it to be a snake!

His mother had always told him snakes were dangerous and evil creatures that were to be reviled and feared. Yet again, his little sister keeps giving him surprises his little heart just can't quite take yet.

The more Bannon thought, the more conflicted he felt within.

Right when he couldnt decide, he remembered he was the one carrying this bag around for like an hour today!

Shivers went up his spine.

What if he had gotten curious as any child might, and reached his hand inside that bag?

Ah! Was his sister on his side or against him!?

Sensing that her brothers emotions were probably swirling around in a whirlpool right now inside of him, Miriam put Samantha her shoulder.

The little snake looked scared at first but just looked up at Miriam and decided to not panic yet.

The human child had been feeding it and taking care of it for a while now, so it had gotten quite comfortable and lazy.



Miriam looked at Bannon and took Aamantha off her shoulder and gently placed her on the table next to Bannons hands.

"She shouldn't bite you only you provoke her. This is Samantha, I've had her for over a month. I want to get a proper cage for her, but I don't think father would let his precious youngest daughter have a pet snake. So, I am going to say Samantha is your pet snake. So please get used to her. She eats insects mostly." Miriam bemoaned her fate to her elder brother.

"As a older brother its your responsibility to look out for me, your younger sister. Tomorrow when we go out and about, I plan on telling father you have a pet snake harmless to humans, and that we are going to get a cage made for her."  As Miriam says the  last few words, she leans in next to Bannon and locks eyes with him and winks and flutters her large, limpid, sky blue eyes.

Bannon goes into a momentary daze and nods his head.

Miriam gives him a big kiss on the forehead and then, takes the lid off the water jug again.

Flipping the lid over, she proceeds to pour the remaining water out into the lid of the jar.

Picking Samantha up slowly once more, she moves her close to the lid.

As if sensing the water contained within the lid, Samantha slithers forth and props her head up on the edge of the jar lid.

A forkee tongue flipped out of her mouth and lapped at the water within the lid of the jar.

"See look how cute her little tongue is. Now while she can't really hurt people, animals are a different story. Now that I have to look after a bird, I need your help looking after her."

If Bannon knew that Miriam was refering to the fact that this snake was venomous to small animals he probably would have not said his next words.

"I guess it's not as scary as mom described them..."

"Okay, so I have a basket I can put her into for tonight but tomorrow we got to ask dad to take us to town so we can get materials for a custom made cage." Replied Miriam.

"Watch her on the table, make sure she doesn't flop off onto the ground." She commanded before shuffling over to her travel trunk at the foot of her bed and opening it and taking out a basket that was about 10 by 20 inches.

Brining the basket over to the table, she set it on the open part of the table and looked at Bannon expectantly.

"What?" Bannon asked his sister, seemingly confused.

"Put her inside. Silly. Pick her up and put her inside. When you touch a pet snake you have to gentley pick them up. So as not to startle them. Picking them up from the middle is the best strategy when used on docile snakes." Miriam said as she grasped one of Bannons hands with her own and lightly moved to the middle of Samantha's back.

Taking her other hand and grasping his last free hand, Miriam then showed Bannon how to handle a snake by showing him how to move his hands.

Eventually she finally got Bannon to put Samantha in her basket all by himself.

By this point, Samantha looked rather unnerved.

Why did they keep swinging her around? Who was this new person touching her? Oh well, time to sleep....


"Good job Bannon, your a great older brother!" Miriam announced to her big brother by giving him a big hug.

After the impromptu hug, Miriam filled the little water dish already in the basket, with the water left in the jug lid before putting the lid back on the water jug.

Going back to the trunk Miriam got out a some ink, quill, paper, and a light book before walking back over to the table Bannon was seated at.

"Alright, time for your lesson Bannon. Let's revisit what we learned last time...." Miriam started her lesson and pushed the snakes basket back to the edge of the table that bordered the wall.

After a few hours of crafting the bird flight harness and talking to and lecturing Bannon about studies, while occasionally checking up on him and correcting his spelling, Miriam finally finished the bird harness prototype.

Putting away her sewing tools carefully, she went and emptied out her bag of its contents and cleaned it with the semi-soap basin water and a towel.

She put the bags contents that were fairly clean into her travel trunk.

Looking over at Bannon, the poor kid looked like he was about to konk out for the night.

"Alright thats enough for the night Bannon. Go to bed now." Miriam said with a sigh, holding one hand to her forehead.

Being obedient from constant sisterly nagging, Bannon quickly left the room to clean up and came right back in a few minutes later very carefully as to not disturb the birds slumber.
Changing his day clothes quickly, Bannon changed into nightwear and hurridly hopped into his separate bed.

Phew, looks like he gets his own bed this time around.

I have done alot of research for this story, and I aim to make it MOSTLY realistic.

Somethings may be a bit stretched this way or that, but overall I am trying to make the experience authentic.

She unfolded the snakeskin. When she saw the burn marks on it, her expression changed slightly. She turned to the mage girl and asked,  "Shanshan, have you seen this kind of magic before?"
The mage girl named Shanshan stepped forward and looked at it with a surprised expression on her face.
The green snakeskin was surrounded by burn marks, showing a spiral shape. Moreover, it was obviously squeezed before it died, because there were obviously signs of being absorbed around the burn marks.
"Gods above!" The mage girl muttered, "Maybe this isn't magic, but a red-hot iron chain. That person used the red-hot iron chain to strangle the Green Snake to death!"
"Didn't you feel the fluctuation of magic?"
The mage girl said, "Yes, but it doesn't work! The nature of the fire element is violent and scattered. They can't condense into whips or vines, so I think it should be something like a chain..."
The warrior fell into deep thought. It looked at the traces it had dug and said, "In other words, not only does he have the magic cores of two magic beasts, but he also has a ripened Strange Fruit!"
They had also smelled the fragrance in the air.
Speaking of this, the three people narrowed their eyes.

The Demon Wolf sniffed around on the ground.
It slowly approached the big tree where Su Han was, completely unaware of the impending danger.
In the next moment, a fiery red vine shot out from the tree with a clatter, tightly wrapping around it.
The Demon Wolf howled and was strangled, hanging from the tree.
Su Han quickly jumped down from the tree to prevent it from howling. He used the Xiphodon's teeth to hit its vital point, ending its life.
"It's enough for today's meal!"
Su Han's eyes lit up. He carried the wolf corpse on his back and disappeared into the forest.
A few minutes after he left, the three rangers hurried over.
When the ranger named Cook saw the burnt wolf fur on the ground, he roared loudly,  "My battle pet!"
The warrior gloomily looked at the level footprints on the ground and said, "He can't escape. He killed your battle pet. He must have found us. Let's continue chasing!"
...
Night fell. In a hunter's cabin in the forest, Su Han skillfully skinned and deboned the Demon Wolf.
He built a fire. Not long after, the wolf meat began to ooze oil, and the fragrance assailed his nostrils.
Su Han tore off a wolf leg and chewed it in large mouthfuls. He praised, "Eating big pieces of meat and drinking big bowls of wine, this kind of life is really wonderful!"
