The winner of my prompt was a book that is now on hiatus. No other entries qualified. At the time I didn't realize that having votes was the rank qualifier. So my book was instantly disqualified.
Despite not making it past the car park, so to speak, I kept this story going. I had moved it to Wattpad and continued to post chapters there.
I entered it into a Wattpad community award, and had eventually won the award for Historical Fiction, but never received the prize for it. 😆
That's okay. Knowing that my writing was enough to be a winner in a judge's eyes was cool. It won over some quality stories as well. That was a prize enough for me.
After some time, I started posting the story to Tapread where it picked up read interest there. Then I got a ping from Islinda who liked the lone chapter I had left on the book page.  
This story has been a blast to write. I'm proud of what I've been able to achieve with it. I have no regrets of what I leave behind, as I have given my best shot.

I first created this novel to enter a biweekly writing prompts contest hosted by Webnovel.  Starting three days late,  I felt that I didn't have time to create a proper outline for the novel so I hopped right in.  This has resulted in a myriad of problems popping up with regards to story progression and the overall quality of the book.

Now that I have a bit of time since the contest is over. I want to work on a few things before the novel gets too far along.  I'll mainly be outlining arcs, villains, power progression, character development, and reworking previous chapters so that they're grammatically better and easier to read.

I can not stress this next point enough.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THIS NOVEL WILL BE DROPPED. 

It's just that I'll be taking a break from this story to work on a few other projects that I've thought up.

I have seen that there is a new writing prompts contest about werewolves. My book is aligned with the theme, I am thinking if I should join or not. However if I will join the contest I will have to delete this current book  and create a new one. Since I have 50 readers in this book  I want to ask your opinion about this. All the important monsters and Five were gathered in the meeting room, watching the absorption process of the Core of Madness. It was the first thing they did when the monsters returned; Five was impatient to see his rewards, but he was bound to be disappointed.

Five looked at the list of monsters unlocked and internally sighed. 'No high-level monsters and only the Ember Spirits are societal monsters. There's no Boss Monster either. I suppose I cannot always be lucky.' 

He was hoping to obtain the powerful monsters of the Fire Pit, like the Flame Commander. While he did obtain many monsters that could be implemented in the volcanic biome, none of them were stronger than the Flame Scarab Warrior. It was depressing to think that the volcanic biome would be ruled by a monster coming from a dungeon specializing in insects rather than the monsters coming for a dungeon specializing in Fire Attribute Monsters.

'At least I've got the Flame Belle and the Flame Sisters. They are the equivalent of Harriet and the harpies but are of Fire attribute.' As the thought crossed his mind, Five glanced at the Flame Belle.

Without a word, he opened his dungeon interface and purchased a Renaming Table. When used, they could rename a character. Five had already noticed the name of the Flame Belle. He did not know how she ended up with this name but he could not allow one of his monsters to be called like that.

"Change your name," flatly said Five.

The Flame Belle's lit up. She hurriedly grabbed the Renaming Table and then froze. She hesitantly asked, "What should I call myself?"

"Can't you pick a name yourself?" asked Five.

"No. It is customary for the dungeon master to name their monsters. I held several names during my life; it changed every time I was summoned to a new dungeon," answered the Flame Belle with a pleading expression.

"Alright. Then, your name shall be Ignis. It means Fire! I hope that you live up to your new name."

"Thank you." The Flame Belle silently retreated. She knew she had already disturbed the meeting enough. She would use the Renamine Table later to avoid wasting more time.

Five nodded approvingly and looked at the system prompts again. Things were different this time; he obtained 300 thousand DP for conquering the dungeon. 100 thousand more than he did last time. 

The dungeon core glowed after its meal but soon returned to its usual dull appearance. Nothing happened, it did not upgrade, nor did it provide additional functions. Five had been hoping for something to happen. The stronger its core became, the stronger the dungeon would be.

'It seems that it is just like for everyone else; it will progressively become harder to upgrade the dungeon core. I will need to absorb more dungeon cores...' thought Five.

Not letting this worsen his mood, Five turned his attention to the most interesting part of his loot. This time, he managed to plunder four artifacts from the dungeon master. He took them one after another, starting with the Heart of Fire.

Active effect: Increases all the stats of Fire Attribute Monsters by 3
Passive effect: Increases the reproduction rate of Fire Attribute Monsters by 9%

Conditions for Upgrade: Having 20 floors controlled by Fire Attribute Monsters, Unlocking 60 species of Fire Attribute Monsters.

Cost of Upgrade: 10 million DP

Five looked at interest at the Heart of Fire. It was a rather common item; even he could purchase it with the dungeon shop but the conditions to obtain it were harsh. It could cost him 100 thousand DP to obtain one at Grade 1 and the conditions were to have ten floors controlled by Fire Attribute Monsters with thirty species of Fire Attribute Monsters unlocked.

In fact, there was a similar item for each attribute but he could not even purchase one yet. Even the Heart of Darkness was out of reach. The Nosferatu's floor was the ninth floor with the tenth floor being the crafting department and Tinyland. He still needed to have two more floors dedicated to the Darkness Attribute monsters since the first floor did not count because it did not house any monsters.

Five was impressed that a dungeon had already managed to unlock such an item but again, he expected no less from it since it specialized in only one attribute. The effects of the Heart of Fire were also quite impressive; when active, it would increase the monsters' stats by fifteen.

The Heart of Fire went to Ishan who would take care of it. The artifact would be placed at the highest floor of the Volcanic Biome. 

The second artifact was the Flames of Destruction:

When used for forging, increases the chances of success by 10% and have a 10% chance of adding additional effects to weapons in exchange for a decrease in maximum durability of 10%

When used for alchemy, lowers the chances of success by 10% but increases the potency of the products by 20%

When used for cooking, lowers the chances of success by 10% but have a 10% chance of adding additional effects to the dish. The dish might even become poisonous.

'A crafting artifact? And it can be used for different professions,' thought Five. He paused for a moment before nodding to the Elder Dwarf. The dwarves would make the best use out of the artifact.

The third artifact was the Molten Embryo

Activate at any time to stop the Embryo's development and trigger its growth. The Embryo will turn into a random Fire Attribute Monster. The monster's strength will be proportional to the days of development the embryo had.

Days of development: 32 days
Note: The maximum days of development is 365 days

'Interesting. The longer I let it be, the better the results would be. I guess I will just throw it in my inventory and wait...' Five sent the Molten Embryo back in his inventory. It would not have an impact on the dungeon until much later into the game. Unless he was in danger, Five did not want to lose the opportunity to obtain a powerful monster.

Finally, the Puzzle Box was the last artifact.

Solve it to obtain the entry rights to the Tomb of Kanzanlak

'Another peculiar artifact,' thought Five. The Puzzle Box looked clean and polished; it did not seem very intimidating but Five knew how treacherous these puzzles could be. People could spend years without successfully opening one; most of the time, opening one would be all due to luck.

"Dreidus. Have you heard of the Tomb of Kanzanlak?" asked Five. Dreidus was an ex-member of Necro Valley. He might have heard of it which would make it easier for Five to estimate the value of the artifact.

"Never. However, I do believe that I heard of Kanzanlak. I think it is a town somewhere in the desert of the Domogo Empire," answered Dreidus after thinking for a moment.

'Hmmm, that does not help me at all.'

Five sent back the Puzzle Box in his inventory. He would give it a try later or ask the other monsters if they were interested in attempting to solve it. For now, the monsters all deserved some rest!

"Let's call it a day. You all worked well. I think you all need some time to recover. Ishan and Dreidus should arrange a floor for Ignis and the Flame Sisters. Harriet and Angela, go and make sure the Mongolla Gazelle has a place to sleep. We won't have any activities for now."

The monsters were delighted but Harriet asked, "Five, will it not be better for us to attack another entity. The more Destruction Points you have the better. There are still a few days before the end of the trial. We can push a little harder."

Five glanced at the harpy queen but shook his head. "Not for now. We can talk about it tomorrow. We cannot attack any random tribe. The situation with the Vicious Rhino Tribe was special. If we target any tribe, we might cause another conflict between them. We don't want another alliance to appear and target the Musclewood Tribe."

"Trust me and just rest. We have more than seven million DP now. Everything is going well, nothing can target us. Even if our reward for the trial is mediocre, we have cleared the region of all competitors."

Harriet paused for a moment with a thoughtful expression and eventually nodded. The monsters were relieved. They left the meeting room one after the other.

Five smiled. Everything was going well but he never expected the situation to change so suddenly. As Five was about to leave the meeting room, a series of system prompts sounded:

[System prompt: You have been selected as the target of the Challenger Gauntlet.]

[System prompt: The player, Farsight has officially challenged you to a duel]

[System prompt: You do not have any items that can counter the Challenger Gauntlet, the challenge has been automatically accepted.]

[System prompt: All the functions of the dungeon core will be temporarily locked. All the entities not belonging to the dungeon will be teleported to the entrance. All entities connected to the dungeon will be teleported back to the dungeon and will have their HP/MP/Durability fully restored.]

[System prompt: Prepare for teleportation, all entities connected to the dungeon will be teleported to a separate realm in one minute.]

Five froze. 'Did I speak too soon?'

After being betrayed, framed and kicked down to the ground, our protagonist was sentenced to life imprisonment. But a few days later, a global disaster occurred, people from all nations migrated to underground refuges.

As a prisoner, he thought his life was over, abandoned by everyone. However, he wakes up, greeted by Gaia, the person responsible for New Earth.

New Earth was a second chance for him, watch as he builds up his own dungeon and become known by all as the Emperor of Madness
