Series creator George Lucas initially wrote the series' main villain as separate from Luke Starkiller's father Annikin [sic]. Various combinations of names for the character were built upon the phrase "Dark Water". Then Lucas "added lots of last names, Vaders and Wilsons and Smiths, and [he] just came up with the combination of Darth and Vader." After the release of The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Lucas said the name Vader was based upon the German/Dutch-language homophone vater or vader, meaning 'father', making the name representative of a "Dark Father".[8] However, there is no evidence that Lucas conceived of Vader as Luke's father before 1978.[9] Other words which may have inspired the name are "death" and "invader",[10] as well as the name of a high school upperclassman of Lucas's, Gary Vader.[11][12]

Hi! For my QI readers, I realised that you didn't get to read how I started writing Spirit Immortal. So below is a short description of myself!


Background about myself and inspirations for writing Spirit Immortal
Currently, I am a university undergraduate, and I have been reading fiction for years. I first got into reading fiction because of anime. Initially, I was a pure anime/manga fan. But I then found out about the existence of light novels. Light novels were far ahead from the existing anime, so I started to binge read translated volumes on Baka-Tsuki. It became somewhat of a drug to me. I kept reading and eventually, fictions had become part of my daily life. However, everything changed when the Yen Press attacked… Suddenly, many of my favourite novels disappeared, and less and less light novel translations surfaced. 

Finding myself in a severe deficit of fictions to read, I found something called Novelupdates. Every few minutes, there was a new novel chapter being released. I was overjoyed. Finally, I was able to satisfy my daily fiction needs. That was how I got into wuxia/xianxia novels. Being ethnically Chinese and fluent in both English and Chinese, there was a great allure for me in these stories. When I was younger, I would frequently watch The Legend of the Condor Heroes and many what we call "wuxia xiaoshuo." So seeing that the traditional stories blend with modern themes was somewhat shocking to me. To think that such a part of the internet existed!

So I started reading a lot of wuxia/xianxia stories. I remember the early days of Coiling Dragon and Stellar Transformations. The friendly competition between Gravitytales and Wuxiaworld. But one day, I encountered Doulou Dalu. For those who have not noticed, Spirit Immortal's cultivation system is inspired by this very novel. The reason being, it was the only cultivation system that I could actually follow. It's a very simplistic system, rank 1-100. The other Wuxia novels cultivation systems confused the heck out of me. However, worry not, Spirit Immortal is not a fanfiction of Doulou Dalu. In fact, other than the cultivation levels, they are nothing alike.

For a while, Doulou Dalu was my favourite novel. To a certain extent, it still is my favourite translated wuxia/xianxia novel. But I started feeling bored. Every single book that I read followed the same format. And after many disappointing stories, I thought to myself… Hey, I could just write something I like!

Thus, the idea of Spirit Immortal started germinating in my mind. It took me over five months to finish plotting the major arcs, characters and finally the ending before I started typing my first word. Majority of the reason why it took so long for me to start writing this story is because of my procrastination and school. Additionally, I didn't know if the story was going to be well received. But eventually, I steeled my mind and said: "Whatever, as long as I am satisfied with the story, who cares?"

So yeah, currently the number one fan of Spirit Immortal is myself, and I can't wait to put the entire story I have in my head into words for all of you to read. It will take time though, so do stick around!


Issues I have had when writing Book Two
I have realised that many of you were unsatisfied with the pace of the story, saying that it is too slow and whatnot. And guess what, I agree! I have been putting the character and world development at the forefront of my story thus slowing down the story progression, However, fret not, now that the first two books are completed, the story progression would begin to expedite as I believe that I have sufficiently developed my characters!

I'm trying to be more descriptive in my writing but that is still a work in progress. Perhaps it would be the greatest hurdle for me but rest assured, I will try my best!

Another major issue I had was time management. I started writing Spirit Immortal during my semester break where I had plenty of time. I even managed to complete Book 1 during that break itself! However, once school started, I had to figure out a way to balance work, personal life and writing Spirit Immortal. There were some days where I only had three hours to efficiently write, proofread and edit my chapter before I deemed it ready to be published. Hence, there might be times where my writing quality dropped slightly but I'm trying my best to ensure that I retain and even improve on my writing quality, so please be patient with me on that one.


Future of Spirit Immortal
Once my semester break hits once more, I will be sitting myself down in order to write as many chapters as I can. Perhaps, eventually, I will take the road of creating a ******* account to allow you guys to read advance chapters and at the same time, give myself some funding to weather through the school days. 

So yeah, I can't thank you guys enough for continuing to stick with me as I continue to write Spirit Immortal. I hope that I will be able to deliver the satisfying fiction that I have conjured up and brought you as much enjoyment as I had in writing this story!

Over a million years ago, the first human contracted with the first Spirit. Ever since then, Spirit use has become commonplace. Humans used Spirits to carry items and start fires. Eventually, even start wars. Thousands upon thousands of years past and one day, one human did the impossible. He transcended his mortality and ascended to the realm above.  

In the present day, the Frie Clan was once a great clan of the Himmel empire. However, a devastating battle ten years ago crippled the clan and their numbers dwindled. To make up for their loss, the upper echelons decided to adopt young orphans and nurture them to become a future pillar of the weakened clan. Shin was one of those orphans. 

Although picked up by the Frie Clan, not all is smooth sailing for Shin and the other orphans...

You've heard or read about obedient systems that will only do as told...

You've heard or read about systems with their own personality, some will only give things to host as long as it benefits them, some that annoys their host nonstop...

You might even have heard or read about systems that aren't really AIs but are are covers for people to order others do what they want them to do...

There are death systems, helping systems, acting tough systems, internet cafe systems, gourmet systems, business systems, naruto systems, music systems and even overpowered systems along with many more...

But have you ever read or heard about a system that can't make up it's mind about what it's suppose to be? 

A system with it's own mind that can choose what it wants to be but is so bad at making decisions that it decided to just try every single one till it finds the best kind for itself...after all, it has the ability to move to different or parallel worlds in different planes of existence and has access to anything it wants as a gift, prize or exchange item to it's hosts. 


PS: (For those who subscribed(if that's what you call it) to my novel "Pokemon: Another World", sorry but I decided to not continue with that one but instead do this instead, for those fakemons I created, I'll turn them into monsters in my other novels instead. I understand that some might not want to read this novel but other pokemon novels instead, I can understand if you drop reading this but for those who will still stay, I appreciate it, hope you like this story and I'll try not to disappoint you people.)

"According to your situation, I suggest you raise a British Shorthair," Zhang Zian said to a customer who was hesitating about buying a cat.
"OK, let me consider." The customer had not decided yet.
"Eeek!"
Zhang Zian was startled, and he looked back to the stairwell to the second floor. He saw Pi extend its little head and beckon to him quietly, and then immediately withdrew its head.
"What is that sound?" The customer looked around and wondered. "Mr. Store Manager, do you have other pets besides cats, dogs, and birds?"
"No, I don't. It is the old stairs that creak when they are stepped upon." Zhang Zian made up an excuse. "Feel free to look at the pets here, and if you have any problems, you can ask the cashier for help. Now excuse me, I need to go upstairs."
After he finished the words, he quickly went back upstairs.
Recoiling in fear, Pi was waiting for him in front of the living room.
"What's wrong, Pi? Did something happen? Are you feeling uncomfortable?"
He asked a series of questions.
Prior to this, Pi had never gone downstairs to find him. That was why he worried that something had happened to Pi. His greatest concern was that Pi may fall ill. He didn't know how to cure an Imaginative Elfin. Even if he could find a way to cure it, others would know about the fact that he was raising a monkey.
"Eeek!"
Pi pointed to the tablet computer anxiously, but it didn't look like it was sick.
Zhang Zian didn't understand what it was trying to say. "Go type on the desktop computer."
They entered the living room together. Pi jumped onto the swivel chair and typed in the Word document: I have tried several books, and only parts of the books could be read.
Zhang Zian didn't understand anything at first. He looked at the tablet computer, and he immediately relaxed and laughed. "Because the following chapters are only accessible until I have recharged my account. And I haven't, of course you can't read them."

Puzzled, Pi typed: Recharge?
"Yes, although web novels are not written on paper as the physical books are; just like rice, computers, drinking water, and clothes, they are also the products of the labor of others. Readers need to pay for most of the relatively exciting web novels. If the authors could not get paid for their labor, who would sit on the computer every night? Who does not know that playing games or watching movies is more comfortable than writing novels?" Zhang Zian explained.
Pi typed: Is it very expensive to recharge?

So, he said casually, "As a pastime, reading online novels is very cheap, at least it is much cheaper than looking for a girlfriend... Pi, in which app do you mainly read online novels? I'll put some money in that app."
Pi was pointing at an icon on the screen of the tablet computer.
"Well, let me see how I can recharge my account in it." Zhang Zian took over the tablet computer, deliberately avoiding the eyes of Pi, and estimating how much money should be put in the app according to the reading speed of Pi. Finally, he made up his mind and added 1,000 Yuan into his account. 
"Well, Pi, you can choose whatever books you like." He handed the tablet back to it.
"Eeek!"
Pi took over the tablet and tried to open the previously locked chapters. Sure enough, it could read those chapters now. It immediately sat on the wicker hanging chair and enjoyed reading the novels.
Intimidated by the rapid reading speed of Pi, Zhang Zian felt sorry for his wallet. Pi really liked online novels so much that it actually went downstairs to find him for help.
Despite spending 1,000 Yuan on the reading app, Zhang Zian felt the money was well spent. Because Pi could read online novels from now on, it would not have such a great demand on physical novels, thus saving him a lot of time. He could devote more of his time to the day-to-day operations of his pet shop.
The only thing he was not sure of, was reading online novels a senseless measure for Pi? There were numerous online novels that even Pi could not finish reading in the foreseeable future. Would Pi increasingly isolate itself?

For the time being, he could not think of any other way. He had no choice but to let time tell him how Pi would turn out.

Pi gradually let its guard down in the pet shop. It no longer kept holding the untitled book all the time. When it was reading in the wicker hanging chair, it would casually put the untitled book next to the laptop on the desk.
Staring at the screen of the tablet intently, it was reading a wonderful part of a novel. It had just finished reading a chapter and swiped the screen gently with its finger as the page jumped to the next chapter.
"Pi, don't spend all your time reading books; get up and move around."
Pi looked up and saw that Zhang Zian had come to the wicker hanging chair and was looking at it with worry.
"Eeek!"
It waved its hand, suggesting that it would rest after finishing the current chapter. And then it lowered its head and continued reading. 
"Pi!"
Pi felt that Zhang Zian's tone sounded unusual. It looked up blankly, as if asking him what was going on. 
Zhang Zian said seriously, "Pi, you have been reading books for five consecutive hours, and you need to get up and move. Otherwise, you may be subject to some health issues. I'm playing hide-and-seek with Galaxy. Do you want to join us?"
"Meow!"
Galaxy appeared from behind him, staring at Pi with its silver-gray eyes.
"Meow! Pi, come and play hide-and-seek together?"
Pi looked alternately at both of them. Their expressions were very serious. Their eyes were full of fear and anxiety. They were clearly worried about Pi.
"Eeek?"
Pi stretched out a palm. It was asking if it had been reading for five hours.

Zhang Zian nodded. "Yes, when I got up in the morning, I discovered that you were reading. At that time, it was before 7 o'clock. Now it is 12 o'clock noon. I have just finished lunch and you haven't moved for at least five hours."
"Eeek."
Pi put down the tablet and jumped off the chair. Suddenly, it staggered and almost lost its balance. 
Zhang Zian rushed to support it. "Pi, are you okay?"
After reading books in the same posture for a long time, Pi found that the joints all over its body were stiff, especially the joints of its neck. Every time Pi moved its neck, it would creak like a rusted bearing. Its legs were already numb and couldn't move freely.

Leaning its whole body against Zhang Zian, Pi put out a finger and wrote words in his palm: I'm fine. I will recover after taking a rest.
Zhang Zian looked at the frail Pi and could not help secretly regretting his choice. Why did he let Pi read online novels? Since Pi had nothing else to do, it would be fascinated by books. After a while, the numbness in its legs vanished, and Pi jumped up from the wicker hanging chair despite Zhang Zian's concern.
"Eeek?"
It repeatedly raised its hands to cover its eyes and then removed its hands.

"Pi, do you want to play hide-and-seek with us?" Zhang Zian guessed its meaning.
Pi nodded, looking at Zhang Zian with uncertainty. "Eeek?"
"Of course, you are welcome to join us at any time." Zhang Zian laughed. "Right, Galaxy?"
"Meow! Welcome!" Galaxy said happily. "Let's play hide-and-seek together!"
"Wait a minute, I'm going to ask Famous to play with us. That guy has been sleeping all day long. It's time for it to wake up." Zhang Zian rushed downstairs.
After a while, he returned to the second floor with the sleepy Famous and asked, "Who is going to be the seeker? Let's decide by playing rock-paper-scissors! Ready? Rock, paper, scissors!"
Before anyone had time to refuse, he had arbitrarily decided that the seeker would be selected through rock-paper-scissors.
"Meow! Paper!"
"Eeek!"
"Excuse me?" said Famous. 
As a result, both Zhang Zian and Pi formed scissors with their hands, while Famous and Galaxy formed paper with their hands.
"Wow, ha-ha. Either of you will become the seeker!" Zhang Zian smirked.
Famous stared at its claws helplessly. "You're cheating! Galaxy and I can only form the shape of paper with our hands..."
"That I don't care!" Zhang Zian scoffed. "Anyway, which one of you will be the seeker? I don't think you two can decide by playing rock-paper-scissors. Would you like to flip a coin?"
He magically pulled out a coin and bounced it into the air. The coin fell back into his palm and was covered by his other hand.
"Heads or tails? Who will guess first?" he asked.
"Meow! Heads!" Galaxy answered first.


Famous was even more speechless. Isn't it obvious that I will lose to Galaxy when it comes to guessing heads or tails? The probability of me winning is simply zero!
Zhang Zian looked at Famous mischievously and asked, "Famous, so you will choose tails?"
"No, I don't choose either side. I admit defeat." Famous sighed. "Forget it, I'll be the seeker. Why are you bullying me today?"
"What are you talking about? We were not bullying you! You lost in the rock-paper-scissors!" Zhang Zian laughed. "Just go to count—right, you must not use your sense of smell to seek us, you will be cheating if you do!"
"You are in no position to accuse others of cheating!" Famous reluctantly found a corner. Facing the wall, it closed its eyes and said, "1,2,3,4..."
Galaxy first sought a place to hide. Zhang Zian squeezed its eyes to Pi and gestured that they should hide in different places.
Pi had seen Zhang Zian and Galaxy play hide-and-seek before, but it was the first time that Pi personally participated in this game. It had been staying in the living room almost all the time and was not familiar with other rooms. Since it did not know where to hide, it finally hid itself under the desk.
After counting to 100, Famous opened its eyes and looked around. If Famous could use its sense of smell, it would be very easy for Famous to find the hiders. Even if its sense of smell was not allowed in this game, Famous just needed to spend more time to find them. After all, the pet shop was not a very large space. 
Famous had a bright idea. It yelled, "Stop hiding, I saw you!"
"Eeek!"
Since Pi was playing hide-and-seek for the first time, it didn't know that Famous was playing tricks. Believing that Famous had really spotted it, Pi got panicked and got out from the desk. Bang! It moved too fast and its head slammed into the desk.

Pi was in so much pain that it fell and sat on the ground, grabbing its head and sobbing.
The desk swayed twice, and the untitled book at the corner of the desk fell to the floor and spread out.

Following the sci-fi setting of the game, one could be assured that players would not be able to employ mystical methods such as summoning or committing blood contracts. Then how could the players get their own pets?
Feng Luo had read many theories on the forum, some of which did not seem reliable, and others were just completely out of this world. Some claimed cloning, data implanting, or even genetic combination and memory editing would be the means of acquiring pets. But who would have thought that it was through the use of biochips!
Biochips were a rather commonly used technological item in War. Through a specialized injector, a liquified nanochip—installed with super memory functionality—could be injected into the body. Through blood circulation, a "biochip" with special functions would be created.
A biochip gave the human body an extra terminal that regulated human metabolism while strengthening some functions and qualities of the human body. Why only the "human" body? Because biochips were not foreign to the players of War.
When players first chose their occupations in War, it was done by inserting biochips provided by the Federation to give them the specializations associated with their chosen occupations, thus boosting some of their Attributes.
According to the Federation, all the skills, experience point amounts, and Attribute boosts were actually effects from different functions of the biochips boosting the player's body. Thus, this established the scientific theory behind leveling up and learning skills, amongst other things.
A thought suddenly shot through Feng Luo's mind. "Wait. So you're saying that biochips can control mutant lifeforms? So you can control humans with it?"
Feng Luo was shocked. The idea blew his mind. Artificial Life, Skynet, Red Queen… The conspiracy of the game mastermind to control the entire human population… Many other fictional plotlines from novels appeared in his head.
"You've got quite the imagination, kid," said Master Roland. He seemed to have guessed what was on Feng Luo's Mind. He put down the silver chip in his hand and shook his head with a smile. "The chips the Federation makes can only activate the potential of the human body. The human mind is complex. Even the highest-grade third-gen biochip, like this one, can only control some low-intelligence lifeforms like mutated tigers and jaguars. And even then, you can't exercise precise control but merely direct their consciousness. This technical threshold is simply too vast to achieve human brain control. The mystery of the human body is far deeper than you can imagine. Hmm… But, given the current speed of this technological renaissance, these mysteries should be revealed soon."
Master Roland sighed. A lot of information was contained in his words, clearly referring to future updates for the game. Sadly, Feng Luo did not think carefully about these words. He just thought that his reaction was odd.
War was operated by Star Gaming and was distributed by the Star Federation federal government to the selected elites from the more than 100 billion citizens of the Federation. How could they let such an absurd thing happen?
"Right," said Feng Luo. His thoughts returned to the chips, and he continued, "Master Roland, you said this chip is the highest-grade third-generation chip. So there are different grades of biochips? "
"Of course there's a difference! Biochips were the greatest invention back in the times of the Galaxy Empire. It is the key to humanity's entrance into a spacefaring civilization. Only with the help of the chips' regulation and strengthening could humans adapt to the complexities of the universe, survive in various ever-changing environments, and fend off all sorts of viruses, bacteria, and other dangerous lifeforms."
