Being ethnically Chinese and fluent in both English and Chinese, there was a great allure for me in these stories. When I was younger, I would frequently watch The Legend of the Condor Heroes and many what we call "wuxia xiaoshuo." So seeing that the traditional stories blend with modern themes was somewhat shocking to me. To think that such a part of the internet existed!

So I started reading a lot of wuxia/xianxia stories. I remember the early days of Coiling Dragon and Stellar Transformations. The friendly competition between Gravitytales and Wuxiaworld. But one day, I encountered Doulou Dalu. For those who have not noticed, Spirit Immortal's cultivation system is inspired by this very novel. The reason being, it was the only cultivation system that I could actually follow. It's a very simplistic system, rank 1-100. The other Wuxia novels cultivation systems confused the heck out of me. However, worry not, Spirit Immortal is not a fanfiction of Doulou Dalu. In fact, other than the cultivation levels, they are nothing alike.

For a while, Doulou Dalu was my favourite novel. To a certain extent, it still is my favourite translated wuxia/xianxia novel. But I started feeling bored. Every single book that I read followed the same format. And after many disappointing stories, I thought to myself… Hey, I could just write something I like!

Thus, the idea of Spirit Immortal started germinating in my mind. It took me over five months to finish plotting the major arcs, characters and finally the ending before I started typing my first word. Majority of the reason why it took so long for me to start writing this story is because of my procrastination and school. Additionally, I didn't know if the story was going to be well received. But eventually, I steeled my mind and said: "Whatever, as long as I am satisfied with the story, who cares?"

So yeah, currently the number one fan of Spirit Immortal is myself, and I can't wait to put the entire story I have in my head into words for all of you to read. It will take time though, so do stick around!


Issues I have had when writing Book Two
I have realised that many of you were unsatisfied with the pace of the story, saying that it is too slow and whatnot. And guess what, I agree! I have been putting the character and world development at the forefront of my story thus slowing down the story progression, However, fret not, now that the first two books are completed, the story progression would begin to expedite as I believe that I have sufficiently developed my characters!

I'm trying to be more descriptive in my writing but that is still a work in progress. Perhaps it would be the greatest hurdle for me but rest assured, I will try my best!

Another major issue I had was time management. I started writing Spirit Immortal during my semester break where I had plenty of time. I even managed to complete Book 1 during that break itself! However, once school started, I had to figure out a way to balance work, personal life and writing Spirit Immortal. There were some days where I only had three hours to efficiently write, proofread and edit my chapter before I deemed it ready to be published. Hence, there might be times where my writing quality dropped slightly but I'm trying my best to ensure that I retain and even improve on my writing quality, so please be patient with me on that one.


Future of Spirit Immortal
Once my semester break hits once more, I will be sitting myself down in order to write as many chapters as I can. Perhaps, eventually, I will take the road of creating a ******* account to allow you guys to read advance chapters and at the same time, give myself some funding to weather through the school days. 

So yeah, I can't thank you guys enough for continuing to stick with me as I continue to write Spirit Immortal. I hope that I will be able to deliver the satisfying fiction that I have conjured up and brought you as much enjoyment as I had in writing this story!

Over a million years ago, the first human contracted with the first Spirit. Ever since then, Spirit use has become commonplace. Humans used Spirits to carry items and start fires. In the present day, the Frie Clan was once a great clan of the Himmel empire. However, a devastating battle ten years ago crippled the clan and their numbers dwindled. To make up for their loss, the upper echelons decided to adopt young orphans and nurture them to become a future pillar of the weakened clan. Shin was one of those orphans. 

Although picked up by the Frie Clan, not all is smooth sailing for Shin and the other orphans...

First, my eyes sprung open, rocketing me out of the dark and into the light. Second, my mouth opened and my lungs opened to suck in all the oxygen possible. But thirdly, something seemed to be blocking my throat.

I didn't panic. My training had taken away such an action.

Springing up from my lying down position, I curled my hand into a fist before slamming it into my diaphragm. I felt the air push against the thing lodged in my throat, so I pulled my fist back and repeated the action. The pain was little to nothing, so I didn't mind it.

The second hit seemed to have done the trick as I could finally cough up whatever was lodged in there.

What came out would have no doubt left most people heaving or vomiting, but when I looked at the bloody, puss-filled sludge that I'd coughed up, my mood didn't change in the slightest. All that changed was my thought process:

What's happening?

As if to answer that question, something that looked like a holographic screen appeared in front of me.

[Congratulations! You didn't die!]

"..." I looked at the screen, my training kicking in full-time to make sure I didn't lose my shit. I'd killed people, I'd been in death-defying situations...yet I'd never seen a holographic screen appear out of no where. I looked around the room I was in, it was unfamiliar, but I could also see there was no way for the screen in front of me to be projected from.

...This screen was just here, existing without a projector. Like in a game or some shit.

The screen vanished, only to be replaced by a bigger one. This time it was red with black writing.

[Erik Kuroda, you have been picked among many other types of scum from Earth to be in a death game! The first test was to get out of a certain-death situation, and only...23 of the contestants could do that! 77 of the original 100 have died, so good job getting into the top 25, Erik!]

This...this is like one of those goddamn trope-filled novels, right?

[If you're thinking it's like one of those goddamn trope-filled novels, then you're kinda correct - this place is just a lot darker and filled with more death of contestants! "Good..." I spoke, my voice hoarse and much different to how I remember it, but the mania was still there, same with the vicious smile spreading across my face, "I'll do it...so, if you're listening, can you explain some more stuff?" I listened to my voice and found that it was much more pubescent than before. Looking down at my body, I saw an average physique stretched across a 6'1" frame. But there was a kind of youthfulness that gave away the age of this body - it wasn't mine.

[Good! Otherwise we'd have had to kill you, Erik! We didn't want that! You were our best Hunter Candidate! You have one other teammate who's like you, so keep a look out for them! Now, onto the explanation...

You've been sent to an amalgam world of anime, game, and manga...with the focus around the Zombie Apocalypse! Though, the main ones are Highschool of the Dead, Resident Evil, and Moshi Fanren. You have 8 Months to prepare for the inevitable apocalypse. You're also one of the few contestants in your local area, so feel lucky for the opportunities we've given you!

We're gifted you with a body that is perfect for your talents and your training. You will experience no bottlenecks, nor will you find any of your assassin training hard. Your genetics could be seen as the genetics of the perfect killer, so train hard before the apocalypse hits!]

I didn't panic. Again, my brain didn't really know how to panic anymore.

All I felt...was excitement.

I wasn't the typical 'Cold' or 'Emotionless' type of assassin. I was raised differently to them. I wasn't technically trained to be an assassin but rather, as a soldier. I was orphaned at a young age, don't know how, just know that I was found by a nice Russian man who took me in and treated me like his own. He named me Erik.

That nice Russian man also happened to be an Ex-KGB agent and he had me trained in all sorts of ways to make sure I wouldn't be hurt. It was this way that he found that I had the talent to go all the way. So, his fatherly side was overpowered by the KGB agent still inside him and he had me trained by all sorts of people. SAS, Spetsnaz, Navy Seals, etc, etc. I was trained in the art of killing and surviving.

And when the old man died, well, I had nothing else in my skill set other than killing and surviving. So I did that. I hired myself out to those who needed people dead, and I did the job. As time went by I slowly delved deeper and deeper into that world, killing countless amounts of people. So, no wonder I was considered the best Hunter candidate or whatever that screen called it.

With the skills of the best soldier, I became the best assassin.

But getting trained like that, since you could walk...well, it has some side-effects.

One of them being how my brain chemistry works differently. While most people feel excited and happy while watching a fun movie, or playing with toys, or riding a roller coaster...I, on the other hand, can't feel excitement outside of a fight. Unless it's excitement about a fight that's incoming.

I can feel normal emotions, sure, but nothing can compare to the thrill I get when I'm in a life and death situation.

Maybe sex, but even then, it'd have to be some pretty fantastic sex.

So, right now, where most people should be screaming, panicking, and going hysterical, I was just smiling, my eyes beaming with excitement.

[In 6 months, you will also be required to go to school. This is so you can befriend the main cast of HOTD. Why would you do that? So you can use them like a moth light trap. Other contestants will go toward them for various reasons, but that doesn't matter. You just need to stay there to kill the ones that come.]

Nodding my head, my excitement didn't die down for even a second. The screen was right - I was already thinking of doing it myself before it even told me to do it.

Standing up, I stretched my body out before I started some training.

I had 6 months until school and another 2 months after that to get ready for the apocalypse.

With the addition of Resident Evil and Moshi Fanren...There's going to be plenty of good fights, isn't there?

A not so average or typical teenager wakes up in a world filled to the brim with different characters from multiple different series. The only problem? They're all from Zombie-related series.

"Does this mean the apocalypse is coming?"

That answer was soon answered with a message screen appearing in front of him.

Dai Li left the exam hall, walked through the crowd, and looked at the people around him. Everybody was flushed with happiness over their success and conversing happily. This made Dai Li even more upset.
"Gosh, I screwed up on the exam! There is no way that I can get into the interview round," he thought. Dai Li rubbed his temple and felt his head getting even heavier.
"Why do I feel so dizzy? Have I got a cold? I shouldn't have gone to see the meteor shower last night - now I did it!" Dai Li thought to himself.
Dai Li was an ordinary undergraduate senior student. As a graduate this year, he had chosen not to take the postgraduate entrance exam. Because his parents were normal blue collar people without any power or influence, his family's financial condition was very average. It had already been difficult enough for them to raise and support a college student. Dai Li was a filial son and he didn't want to burden his parents any more. This was why he had decided to join the job hunting "army" along with this year's many graduates.
The problem was that his major, sports training, was kind of lame. People could easily draw a conclusion on what the students of this major could do after they graduated. The employment prospects for this major was not great. Graduates from the literature or philosophy majors, for example, might also have a difficult time finding jobs, but at least they could aim for something more general such as a secretary or copywriter position to start with. But even those general positions did not welcome students from sports majors.
This year was hard enough for normal graduates, and it was even worse for Dai Li, who came from an ordinary family without any money or network. Moreover, he was not from a 985 or 211 university. These factors, coupled with the fact that he was in such a specific major, made it hell for people like him when it came to job hunting.
That was why he targeted for the Recruitment Exam for Public Institutions. For example, primary and middle schools hired P.E teachers every year. Non-profit sports schools and teams looked for coaches too. Being a teacher or coach was at least a secured job in those public institutions. To prepare for the exam, Dai Li had begun reviewing since the first semester of his senior year. He had also gone to the education and psychology training class that was organized by the Bureau of Education. He had even managed to pass the tests and get the Teaching Certificate.
Today was the day of the recruitment exam, but he had been feeling dizzy since the morning. He had pushed through it and went into the exam hall, but he was too sick to even find the right directions. Because of this, the exam had been like the "hell-mode" of a videogame with an extra "bonus", except the only result for this game was "game over".
He continued rubbing his temple and thought to himself, "I thought I could enjoy not only two days off every week and the public holidays if I became a P.E teacher, but also the summer and winter vacations. Well, that's not gonna to happen now. I guess I'll just go write some online novels. Maybe a novel about an athlete. I even have the title for it, 'All-around Athlete'!"
"I bet nobody is going to read a book with such a lame title. What kind of a nerdy writer would write such a boring novel like that?" said a voice that suddenly popped up in his head.
"What? Who is talking?" Dai Li looked around and found that no one was talking to him.
"Don't bother searching - I am in your head." The same voice talked to Dai Li's again.
Dai Li suddenly had goosebumps all over. He was terrified by that voice. This was quite understandably a normal reaction for any normal people who found out that someone, or something, was speaking in their mind.
"Don't be afraid. I'm not going to hurt you," the voice claimed.
"Who the hell is that guy? What is happening?" Dai Li thought to himself.
"Don't call me 'that guy.'" The voice now made an echo in Dai Li's head.
"He knows what I am thinking about!" Dai Li thought to himself, surprised.
"Of course I do. So you can communicate with me just by thinking," said the voice.
"So who on earth are you?" Dai Li thought silently. He was not used to this form of communication.
"I am your guide, and also part of the Coaching System. My mission is to help you get used to this Coaching System and make the best of it," the voice answered.
Dai Li immediately thought of the so-called "Systems" in the online novels. It was almost like cheating; if you had this kind of "Systems", the world would be your oyster. You could go from being a loser one second to on top of the world the next. Everyone would throw themselves at you. Dai Li had never imagined that lucky things like this could ever happen to him.
"Coaching System? It sounds like a system related to a personal coach, like having someone outside of the game help you without notifying other players. Is it like cheating?" Dai Li asked.
"Exactly. It can be a cheating system for your life!" The voice read Dai Li's mind again and said, "this Coaching System not only can help you become a coach, an excellent coach, the best in the world, but also it can lead your life all the way to the top! This system is almighty. The fact that you have this Coaching System makes you the luckiest person in the world."
"An almighty Coaching System? Deposit one million yuan into my bank account and I'll buy your word," Dai Li said, challenging the system.
"I cannot do that," the voice answered, "but you could easily make one million, ten millions, and even 100 millions with the help of this Coaching System."
"I don't think I want you in my head," Dai Li rejected the system subconsciously. He felt uneasy about this thing that had suddenly entered his head.
"No way," the voice said determinedly. "I followed the meteor for a very long time and finally found a place to settle. It took me all morning to match with you. It's too late for you to say no."
"The whole morning? So it was this guy's fault that I suffered from the dizziness the entire morning!" Dai Li complained to himself.
"I have to match your brain waves to communicate with you. It might be the reason you feel a little bit dizzy!" the voice admitted quite honestly.
"A little bit dizzy? You ruined my exam! You are the reason why I won't get a job now! Do you have any idea how difficult it is to find a job? Do you have any idea how long I've been preparing for this exam?" Dai Li felt so angry now that he knew who was responsible for what had happened.
The voice said carelessly, "All you could have been is merely a P.E teacher in a middle school even if you pass the exam. But with me, it's possible for you to be the best coach in the world and lead you to a unparalleled, successful life. A P.E teacher in middle school means nothing compared to a world-class coach!"
"A world-class coach," Dai Li repeated. "No, I don't need that. All I need to do is earn more than ten thousand yuan per month. I just want to have enough to buy a house and to get married. That would make me really content."
"Only ten thousand yuan monthly salary? Come on. With my help, you can become the best coach in the world, even if you are an idiot," the voice followed immediately.
"So are you like an instructor for a newbie?" Dai Li asked.
"Something like that. If there is anything you don't understand about this Coaching System, feel free to ask me. I'll give you some reasonable proposals," the system said.
"Alright. Then you have to tell me what to do now." Dai Li finally gave in.
"First, you need to get into the Coaching System," said the System.
"How?" Dai Li asked.
"Use your mind," the system answered.
"Use my mind how?"
"Use your mind, stupid!" After the System answered, Dai Li used his thoughts to direct what was happening. He suddenly found himself in an infinite starry sky, with all the stars surrounding him.
"Am I in the system? Why do I feel like I'm in the endless universe?"
A golden projection suddenly appeared in Dai Li's vision. He looked carefully and identified that it was someone's head. But it was very blurred—he could only see its facial features. It was hard to distinguish its specific appearance.
"Newbie instructor?" Dai Li asked carefully.
"Guide. Newbie guide!" The golden head corrected him.
Dai Li took a deep breathe and asked, "What should I do next?"
"You are still a newbie. But the good thing about being a newbie is that you can get some type of starting bonus. This is a welcome gift for you," said the golden head.
A golden box showed up in front of Dai Li the next second. The golden head began speaking. "This is the welcome gift for newbies. You can open it up and have a look."
Dai Li opened the gift without any hesitation. He saw that there were two things in the box. There was a golden card on the left and something resembling a radar on the right.
Dai Li picked up the card first. "Top-level coach trial card (14 days)? What is this?"
"If you stick this card to your body, you can experience the training results of a top-level coach for the 14 days that follow," said the golden head.
Dai Li nodded and tried to stick the card on his body. The golden head stopped him and said, "Don't use it now. It's a one-time-only card. If you use it now, you can't use it anymore."
"Then when should I use it?" Dai Li asked.
"When you have someone to train, at least. You don't even have a training target right now. Wouldn't it be a waste to use the top card?" said the golden head.
"You are right," Dai Li nodded. He picked up the radar-like object. "What is this radar?"
"The primary detector. You can use it to detect individual ability. The range for detecting is 10 meters. You can try it on some random person in real life," the golden head explained to him.
Dai Li went back to real life and saw an old woman walking up to him with her dog.
"Detect!" he used his mind, then saw a list of statistics in the system the next second.
Detecting Target: Ordinary person; Sports Ability: 46.
"46? Is that high or low? I should try it on another person and compare them." He looked around and found a young man of average height walking by.
"Detect!" he used his mind again and saw another list of statistics.
Detecting Target: Ordinary person; Sports Ability: 68.
"68 is much higher than the dog-walking lady. I wonder what am I?" Dai Li then used the detector on himself and saw that the result was 80.
"Wow, I didn't expect my sports ability to be as high as 80!" He was very satisfied with the number.
The system's voice appeared in his mind again. "The upper limit for an ordinary person is 99. Your ability is an 80, which means you always workout."
"Yes, I majored in sports training. Besides the normal lessons, we also have many classes for practicing what's required on the training ground," said Dai Li.
The golden head continued pointing out, "What you should do next is learn more about your character attributes."
A big screen showed up in front of Dai Li. Underneath a picture of Dai Li there were details.

"Are there any special requirements for training targets? Or could anyone be my trainee?" asked Dai Li immediately.
The golden head answered right away, "There are no special requirements. The target could be an athlete, an ordinary person, disabled person, or even someone in a coma. As long as you have the 14-day top-level coach trial card, it will be very easy to upgrade. Just find some random person and train them for a few days. That would do it."

"Someone in a coma can't even move. What could I do with them?" Dai Li left the Coaching System. He began to feel the Coaching System was even more unreliable.
"Find some random people? It's easy for him to say. If I pass this exam and become a P.E teacher, I can easily find hundreds of students to train. But where should I look for targets now? I guess I should just start writing online novels…" As Dai Li was pondering over his tasks, a poster attracted his attention. There were a few big words on it: "Talent Education. "Please don't let it be so." Clark feared the possibility. Although it was fun to read xianxia and isekai novels but to live through one was pure hell to say the least.
There would be little to no laws in those lands and monsters thrived in there that would serve as a constant threat to a normal lackluster life for any mortal.
This was the reason why those novels always need to have a hero to save them in the first place because it was a dog eat dog world that knew no democracy of any kind. 
Clark could bump into a stranger and pay with his head on a pike in the aftermath.
"Why have i been punished like this? I was just a good ordinary rich kid in society! I don't deserve this!" Clark lamented inside.
"Do you want more, Master Lu?" the same enigmatic voice woke Clark's inner monologue.
"I'm fine, Qian Ru. That should be enough for now. Thank you." Clark was finally able to reply after the memory transfer.
His name in this world was Lu Chen. A mortal Elder of the Lu Family. Since he has no talent in the ways of the dao, this humble old man has journeyed to a hundred years of existence in mediocrity.
It seemed like forever had passed when he was still proud of his lineage and wanted only to marry the best women and in the end create a harem of his own. Sadly, that pride has already dried up to nothing today.
A distant memory that was there only to be cherished in rare moments of melancholy. In fact, Lu Chen has only ever conquered cheap women in love houses.
Qian Ru was exactly one of those billable prizes.

"Then i judge i made a satisfied customer in you once again, Master Lu." The playful voice that was full of warmth and seduction was gone from Qian Ru.
This time it turned unfeeling as she expertly hopped from the bed to gather her clothes in silence. 
Ten seconds to a tee and she once more appeared like an innocent untouched young girl that would be the fancy of countless boys from afar.
Prim and filled with innate modesty, that was how she looked at the moment. The purple dress she wore only accentuated her charm as it veiled an aura of nobility that she so wished to imitate. 
"Thank you for your patronage, Master Lu." this were her last words before calmly exiting the room.
"She left, just like that." Clark murmured. He wallowed in negativity for almost an hour before he felt completely drained from this unwanted ordeal. 
He had a sense of clarity for an instant and remembered the countless web novels he'd read in the past.
"Old grandpa, are you there? Where is my cheat item bonus upon successful soul travel?" 
"BOINK!"
"System... initializing!" an emotionless female voice uttered from out of the blue.

Yan was amazed how his status screen popped up in front of him. What caught his the attention the most is his weapon. 

"Mjolnir - The Killer of Gods" 

He felt it was a very intimidating name. He thought of something. 

"System, am I currently the same galaxy as of Earth? Does that also mean that there are also the same Gods governing Earth?" Yan asked curiously. 

[Yes. The God who summoned Master was one of the Major Gods in the galaxy. To do this, that God mist have asked permission to the other Gods in the galaxy to let you reincarnate into this world.]

"Oh. In this aspect, Gods were like humans too. Though he may be full of himself, he still granted me all of my wishes. I can tell that he's indeed a very powerful God. But back to the topic, what do I do to survive in this forest?" 

Yan asked nervously. He was really scared of his current situation. In his past life, he had never been gone into a forest. When he was young, if there would be a forest field trip, he would always find a way to excuse himself. It's not that he didn't want thrills like the other kids, it's just that he was afraid. You could say that he was somewhat of a coward. 

[Master, in order for you to survive our current predicament, you must need to know how to wield your God-Killer weapon. Mjolnir is the best hammer in the Universe. It was used in the past to kill top ranked Gods in the all across the cosmos. First, summon Mjolnir to learn how to use it.] 

"Okay. I must learn it myself. Only me can save me. Tell me, how do I summon Mjolnir?" 

Yan felt reassured. If he was alone and the system did not exist, he would not even know how to calm down, much less know what to do.

Suddenly, bright light burst out of nowhere. A majestic hammer appeared in front of Yan. It was glowing with holy light. Yan can feel it's tyrannical aura leaking out from the weapon. 

Its handle is about four feet long and ten centimetres in diameter. The head of the hammer is one feet tall, two feet long, and eight inches wide. 

It is inscribed with symbols that are glowing with holy light. It had a deep blue color with a hint of gold while purple lighting crackling allover.
