Just here to say. As a translator you should only translate. Even if you consider the author is homophobic, racist or whatever, you should keep translating or not translating. To modify a book is censorship. The same thing dictators do.

If your thinking process is like that, then you should just read this in MTL. He's modifying it to better understand the book and for readers to have a clear understanding of the book. The Chinese elements in a book sometimes don't even make sense, as they have so many references that you can't understand unless you're a Chinese or a Chinese novel/manhua enthusiast.
I never said anything of that, you're accusing me out of the blue. Translating a chinese idiom, in something you can understand in english, is not modifying a book. Meanwhile, translating "white/black people are ugly" as "white/black people are gorgeous" is modifying the meaning of the author. If you despise racism, you should not advertise the author. If you like the book, you should not modify it.
