I like the original characters, the author put some diversity into the cast, unlike the other stories where they're all asian washed. Respect for the author for not making the story formulaic and respect for making it actually original, will definitely be continuing to read this.

but they're in 1900s Japan right?
The story explains how all the characters ended up in Japan. It isn't forced diversity in which they just randomly spawn a bunch of different races in 1900s Japan (which I understand would be majorly populated by Japanese people only) but they give a valid explanation in how these people ended up there. It really isn't a big deal at the end of the day, I was just happy that there were original characters that were actually unique and not some rip offs of the main characters.
