One great sage might be better and formulating new spells, while another might be better at using the other skills the host has.

Considering Kurama is literally a Sentient Mass of super dense chakra/power formed in the shape of an enormous Nine tailed fox, it's no wonder Kurama trips his sensory skills. While the power Kurama emits in attacks like the bijudama is impressive, it's nothing compared to the sheer amount of power that makes up his literal existence. Considering a swing of one his tails can destroy mountains and cause tsunamis, that would put casual tail swings at the same level as Ichigo's casual sword swings when he faced the First BBEG Aizen. A level of power that was temporary and that cost Ichigo his power for several years till his friends could restore him to his normal(ish) state.
