I understand. when it comes to the devil fruit there had been way too many explanations even a name which you probably skipped over, it's the adapt Adapt no mi, and the next two chapters you will see more. as for the mc himself, most characters gave an unknown background

it's because of where he was, and where he still is. The one piece world is huge and his background is still unknown. some parts of the world really don't know shit about other parts

it's early story, all you gotta know is that the MC is confined in a dangerous ship and gotta escape. The MC is a goal-driven villain and this isn't a romance novel, so a partner might or might not appear as the story unfolds.
