With my vision still blurred, I tried to focus on anything around me. I noticed something different about myself. My hands — they weren't the same. They were smaller, with shorter fingers, small claws emerging from them, and dark skin. Looking around, or at least at what I could see, I began to move my tiny hands around and then noticed something else. My ears... were they large? And furry? They had a strange shape, like a cat's or a dog's. (Is this me? Are these my ears? Like an animal's?)

During that time I'd investigated the Athena familia and found that they were actually pretty much what Tsubaki said they were. A slightly atypical exploration familia with a fair number of level twos and apparently quite a few inventions to their name. As far as I could tell, they genuinely tried to help people and most of their inventions ran along that theme, something their Goddess encouraged.

Time passed inconspicuously, and I was stuck waiting for the liquid in my egg to be used up. This would, hopefully, mean I would form into the best I could be. No one wants to be the runt of the litter. The creature sitting on me, my mother, would occasionally get up, I assume, to get food and come back to reclaim her place on my egg. I sometimes wondered if my would-be father was around, but I never felt his presence, if it was there, during my time in this egg. The only "person" here throughout my stay was Mother. I could sense her affection towards me from outside almost constantly. More importantly, this was my first time as a baby with awareness. Do all babies have this sensitivity? I do not know, but it makes me wonder if we humans lose that somewhere along the way. If we do, when?
