how about you create some demon and make them attack the MC dimension for its resources like trying to capture the phoenix to use it for themselves or he receive some information about a death dimension or thunder or illusion dimension for his brothers and sister, you can even make it wuxia style like a lesser demon prince attacked and he won then his brother then his friend then cousin... if you add some epic fights here and there with damsel saving or some other staff it will be great
