To be honest it's not too late to play into it as intentional. They didn't expose him because they wanted to see his true intentions or something and eventually have a big reveal from Batman of everything he's been hiding including his journal. They gave him the idea he was in control so they could learn more. I don't know how far the story is but that's how I see this story covering the majority of its plot holes. It would also build character as he's slowly growing to think he's as smart as Aizen when he clearly isn't. It would allow growth and some humbling with his god complex. Just ideas for thought.
