Clones are disgusting because they have individual autonomy, with their own thoughts, reaction to stimuli and independent actions, they are basically consciousnesses separate from the original individual, the only difference is that the "memories return to the user", that still sucks. Basically "you" didn't do that, but a copy of you did it, and then you get the memories of those actions. This makes all the difference, which is why I prefer avatars over clones. Many bodies share a single consciousness, linking in real time the bodily sensations, the coordination of the different bodily vessels, and the establishment of a single core of individual thought, i.e. a single original will, instead of creating independent copies of yours to act on your behalf. Avatars also allow, if you will, a virtual immortality within the world, since a soul existing with many bodies allows that when the physical body is destroyed, as long as there are more living beings left, the soul will never "die" in the mortal sense, but simply lose one of its many bodily vessels to experience the material world.
