Well I don't remember but did the author said to any time she was destined to die to this time or something ? Maybe she was just beaten and r*p*d or something and was instead destined to find them after that and what happened pushed her to take the 2 pills instead of just one (i think there had a nasty side effect on them) and be able to take revange against them and others. To me it would totally be a Female protag in the making back story
