Same con with living in a highrise. Also no power having to hike the stairs every time you go out, unknown neighbors, easily targeted for your penthouse location. Waste management, no way to easily hide power usage.. and smells because we all know a hot pot or two will appear. Only pro I can think about is the commonly used security door at the stairwell.

I always questioned why they move into highrises. Doing as you said is the best option. Stockpile, and develop a mountain top property or maybe a valley.
