Day Off

Now that the school has been, well, obliterated, all the students, including I, are getting a week off of school while a backup building is being constructed. Building does take place a lot quicker in a world of magic after all.

That guy's magic tsunami wasn't as big a deal as it seemed though. It wasn't a 'tsunami' so to speak as much as a gigantic wave spell that only hits a designated target. However, the tradeoff is that the specific target is hit a lot harder than if it was a real tsunami. Basically, it was a concentrated attack.

The new school building seems like it will have more protective spells to protect from attacks like this, in case it happens again.

Now, since it's a day off, I'll log into onto 'Spell Craft Battle', a new game I've been playing. The game still exists after the Shift, luckily. Huh, seems like my friend is online. I'll message him to see if he can get on.

Me: Hey, can you get onto 'Spell Craft Battle'?

InfinityGamer112: Yeah, just give me a moment.

Me: What are you doing on online today anyway? Isn't it a weekday?

InfinityGamer112: My school got obliterated, did you see it on the news?

InfinityGamer112: Why are you on?

Me: Wait, do we go to the same school? You are talking about the concentrated 'Tsunami' spell attack right?

InfinityGamer112: Yeah! Small world huh...

Me: What classes do you take. Maybe we have the same class.

InfinityGamer112: Well, I have Algebra 2, Magic Studies 3, English, Elvish 11, and a couple others.

Me: You are taking Magic Studies too? What magic do you specialize in?

InfinityGamer112: Time Magic, I know it's difficult, but I've always wanted to learn it.

Me: Wait, you aren't William, are you?

InfinityGamer112: Wait, do you have the same class as me?

Me: Oh my gosh! I'm Jess! Lol

InfinityGamer112: No way?!? That shy girl?

Me: Yep! I've always been more comfortable talking over the internet.

Me: Anyway, you got 'Spell Craft Battle' open yet.

InfinityGamer112: Yeah, just give me a second...

As he finally gets onto the game, we join the same party and play for a while. Eventually he has to get off and we say our goodbyes.

I go downstairs and decide it's a good time to take a walk. Of course, by walk I mean that I'm gonna be floating around town. I tell my mom I'm going out for a walk and leave the house. I haven't been in the city for a while. In fact, this was a suburban area before the Shift so saying 'city' is a little bit of a stretch.

Sure doesn't look suburban anymore though. Doesn't exactly look extremely urban either. Saying all the building are made into trees, it looks right out of a fantasy novel. At least the view is good. As I'm just floating along I feel like some people are watching me but it must be my imagination.

===

Random POV:

"Is that really her?"

"She is still wearing the same stuff she wears at school, a hoodie and sweatpants. Also, do you think just anyone floats around in the city?"

"Yeah maybe, well as the self-designated 'Floating Elf Princess' Fan Group we must see what she's doing, right?"

"I don't know, isn't that kinda stalking though?"

"It ain't a crime if you don't get caught y'know"

"Famous words to live by!"

===

Normal POV:

Well, while the unsettling feeling of being watched isn't going away, I go on with my walk around the city area. I decide that I've gone far enough and turn around to head back home. "Yeah, I've got my daily exercise done, right?" I state out loud, totally not forgetting I've just been floating this whole time.

I see one old lady about to fall and catch her with my magic. I float over and help her back up, she then thanks me and I go on my way, but now I'm feeling like I'm being watched has even more now. Almost like there are multiple people watching my every move.

"Jeez, this feeling of being watched really isn't going away huh."

I say almost back at my house? Tree? Tree-house? House-tree? Lets just go with house. I walk back in, take off my shoes, and head back upstairs to my room to lay down in. "That was so tiring! I'm taking a nap." I say totally not forgetting, yet again, I just floated the entire time.

Huh, how that I thing about it, that feeling of being watched has gone away now... weird.

===

Random POV:

"Could this possibly be... her house! Like, where she lives!"

"IT'S SO... average."

"Honestly I thought it would be more."

"I know right. With how strong her magic is I thought she came from a wealthy family or something. Although, that does explain why she is always wearing such bland clothes."

"Yeah, I didn't expect to see her everyday life is just so... simple. I guess you really can't judge someone based on something as simple as seeing them at school."

"Yeah, but she is still the savior of our school."

"Yeah, she'll always be the 'Floating Elf Princess' to us y'know?"

"But how did she teleport if her family isn't rich..."

===

Normal POV:

When I wake up from my nap, something hits me. Why was I so tired? I was really just floating around the whole time, it shouldn't have been enough to wear me out. Is this another change to my personality from the shift? No, maybe the incident at the school wore out my MP and I am still recovering, it's still too early to tell.

I'll keep this change in mind and see if anything else changes. It is weird though, sometimes I feel like the more I use my magic, the more I become like 'this worlds' Jess. Like I'm changing to fit the roll that the Jess of the 'world after the Shift' is meant to fill.

It's not like I'm becoming a different person, after all Jess in the end is still me, but it's like the different experiences Jess had compared to me is forging me into a different version of myself. That may be exactly what's happening, but I may just be paranoid.

Onto another topic, my development of Gravity magic seems to be going well, as seen by the, ahem, 'flooding incident' at the school. Of course I have a lot more to learn and develop though. It's not like I'll be perfect at that magic over night.

I start floating some books towards me and start reading. There really isn't much to learn so far, just people restating what I've read in other books. Although I did learn a few new things, it isn't anything to celebrate about.

Like how Gravity magic has never been used in teleportation. Turns out they use Space magic. It is very similar to Gravity magic other than the fact it is practically designed for instant transport. If Gravity magic is a computer that can run everyday tasks, then Space magic is like a computer specifically designed for one purpose, transportation. Because of this, it is normally used.

On top of that, Space magic is never used by one person, but is normally handled by a machine. Going back to the computer analogy, since the Gravity computer is so much more simple, it doesn't take as much power for the tasks you are running on it. However, for the Space computer, since the tasks are so complicated, the machine takes up more energy.

Basically, Space magic is more efficient for transportation, but can't do much else. On top of that, it isn't very energy efficient with how much MP it costs, so it is done with machines that cost millions. Maybe there is a human out there who can use Space magic without a machine but they would be some MP monster if they can...

Because I was interested, I looked up more about Space magic, and while the instant transport technique takes more energy than mine, it is WAY better. I can only go to places I've been and remember clearly, while the Space magic variant can take you ANYWHERE and I mean it, as long as it has the correct coordinates plugged in.

It can also take more than one person with it, up to six people apparently. So it's cost is for sure worth it. I wish I could do Space magic, but alas, it is impossible. Oh well, those who reach for what is just plain out of reach are fools anyways.
