Chapter 13 Interrupted

Waking up after 8 hours, John sits up. John exits the tent and walks out; he saw Amy and Andrea holding fishing rods and slowly dragging a canoe. He walks over to them and picks up the canoe, he then starts to follow them to the lake, as they exchange greetings. Arriving at the lake, John sets the canoe in the wat before Amy and Andrea get in, he then gives the boat a hard push and using that momentum the girls begin to paddle further. John waves at them, then he runs back up to the camp, he grabs an axe, then he heads into the woods.

Arriving at a sturdy and thick tree, John swings his axe 3 times before the tree starts to crack. Hearing this John backs away as the tree falls, when the tree was on the ground, John began to chop it into pieces so that he could carry them back to camp. Finished chopping the tree into many logs, John starts to carry the logs back to camp, taking multiple trips. When he finished, he heard cheering, he looked over and saw Amy and Andrea walking into camp with about 30 fish. Seeing this he walks over and talks to Amy. Amy wanting to talk to John for longer, hands the fish she was carrying to Morales, the DeFacto chef of the camp.

John and Amy then walk around for a while, they eventually arrive at the cliff that overlooks the lake. They sit down on a rock, and start to talk to each other, John gives her the chocolates and candies he got for her. Causing her to smile and eat some while talking, they talk for a while before Amy talks about her family.

She says worriedly, "I hope my mom and dad are okay. It terrifies me, to think that they might get killed by one of those monsters. I'm scared that one of those things will get me". John seeing Amy shaking in fear and worry, he puts both of his hands on the sides of her face.

Looking straight into her blue eyes, he says, "I won't let anything happen to you. Afterall you're too cute." Amy hearing this calmed down, a blush on her cheeks, John leans forward. Right as their lips were going to touch. Andrea comes walking over, telling them to come eat lunch, with a smirk. The mood completely ruined, they follow Andrea back to camp and sit next to each other. Seeing that everyone else was eating, they started to eat as well, while talking to each other.

When they finished John told Amy and Andrea, that he was going into the town again. Amy said that she didn't need anything, but Andrea pulled John aside and ask John to get her some nice wrapping paper, to wrap Amy's present in. Andrea said that it was going to be Amy's birthday in 2 weeks. John hearing this says that he will get it for her.

John deciding that he hasn't run for a while, starts to run down the road to the highway. When he reached the edge of the city, he summoned a blaster rifle from Star Wars. Running through the city he arrives at a shopping mall, it was small, only having one floor, it was only about 100,000 square feet.

Walking towards the entrance, he can see that the door has been barricaded, summoning a crowbar from the system, John begins to pry the door open. The door now open, John kicks the stuff in front of the door knocking it over. The noise draws 50 walkers that were inside, towards him. John aims the blaster rifle at a walker's head, before pulling the trigger. The red bolt completely misses the walker, even though John had aimed perfectly. He shoots a couple times, but misses every shot, now realizing, there was a reason the clone troopers all had terrible aim. He throws the blaster into Eden, not understanding, how a world as advanced in technology, as Star Wars could not make a gun shoot straight.

John summons an M16 and switches the firing rate to semi-automatic before shooting all 50 walkers, John realized that when he is alone, he could just summon the ammo from the system directly into his gun, essentially having infinite ammo. With the last walker shot, its brains blowing out the back of its head. John walks through the mall, he walks to a Jewelry store and finds some fancy paper for Andrea. As he is walking out of the mall, he notices a young girl around 8 looking at him through one of the windows of an electronics store.

Walking over to the store, John taps on the glass, as the door had been blocked. He hears some muffled voices before the stuff barricading the door starts to get moved away, boy around the age of 14, opens the door. John walks inside and saw 3 children, seeing them, he notices that they are very malnourished. He reaches to his pocket, giving them some fruit snacks. After they had eaten, they all introduce each themselves, John starts by saying his name, the boy who opened the door said his name is Rob, the little girl he had seen before, said her name was Lily. The last two were girls around 12, they were twins and said their names were Riley and Molly, Riley was more outgoing, while Molly was shy.

With the introductions out of the way John asks them how they got into this situation, Rob said that they had run out of food and had come to the mall because they had seen people entering from the apartment window and thought they would be safe there. It turns out that their parents were at work, and they had just gotten off the bus and into their apartments when they saw the emergency broadcast on TV. Seeing this, they brought all the food from the three apartments to Rob's place before they locked the door, deciding to stay together.

Anyway, they had been safe in the mall for a while, but someone came back bit and they didn't tell anyone. At night they heard screams, woke up and then ran to this store, before barricading the door. That was a week and a half ago and they were starting to lose hope, but then John appeared and killed all of the walkers easily giving them hope.

After finding out their story, John asked them if they wanted to come with him, back to his group. They said excitedly, "Yes!", seeing this John has them follow him out of the mall. He saw an old sedan, that looked to be in good condition, He hotwired it and they all got in. John then started to drive back to the quarry, on the way the kids asked what his camp was like and were the people nice, John told them about the camp for about an hour and then they the kids started to play a game, 'I Spy'.

Reaching the camp, it was quite late. Rick, Amy, and the others were surprised when John came back with a group of kids. John explained to Rick about the kids and the women of the group went up to the kids, comforting them. Some men set up a tent near John's for the kids, by the time that was done the kids were already settled into the group and were eating some dinner. Seeing them eating, John smiled and then walked over to sit by Amy, discretely giving Andrea the wrapping paper, he had gotten for her.

When everyone finished eating, everyone went to their tents, the kids followed John to their tent, John made sure they were okay, then he walked into his own tent and lay down on his sleeping bag.

John was awoken during the night when he heard someone open his tent, sitting up quickly and pulling out his pocketknife. He looked at the opening and saw Lily standing there, he put down the knife, seeing she had some tears in her eyes. He motioned her to come forward, he closed the tent and then held her for a while. Hearing her breathing heavily, with her eyes closed, John then closed his eyes and slept while holding Lily.
