The System

Rain splashed onto the pavement as a woman left a bundle near the gutters. A place where no sane person would go.

System Z reviewed the storyline silently, it was an odd thing. 'Thought' or the feeling of it. Words and images that float within you, seeming to come from nowhere. This pitiful boy, Han Ning, will die for the sole sake of dying.

At this moment in time, being a new system, it could only see what the host saw. It couldn't even feel what the host was feeling, the only reason why he knew that the host was about to be abandoned in the cities gutters was that of the predefined fate. In other words, the future it would try its best to stop.

"Cry," Z commanded the baby, unsure of what to do in this situation. Yet the baby didn't even gain a slight bit of consciousness, judging by the darkness that surrounded Z. Ah, it seemed to be 'asleep'.

"..Wake up." System Z tried to antagonize the child to wake up to no avail. It seemed to be dreaming of something funny as it started to giggle, making the woman hesitate for a brief second. Perhaps the woman wasn't as heartless as she seemed to be.

Now, this child. Well, this child was a cannon fodder. It would die in about a day, how can it live when the mother abandoned it anyways.

Yes, it dies for the sole sake of dying. There really was no point in saving something like this. In all technicalities, System Z thought, just surviving past that day would be good enough.

So what if it avoided it's bad end just to fall into another one? Wasn't there this thing called predestined fate? No matter how hard you try to change it, it will slowly curve you back to it's path.

Like this, even without trying at all, System Z already gave up. Who cares if the baby dies of hunger, if that's the bad end then let it die of food poisoning.

As if sensing the system's malicious intent, Han Ning started wailing up to the high heavens. The wailing rattled the system to no end, the cacophony of sound wasn't what bothered it. Instead, it was the erratic shaking of it's pneuma that caused an immense pain to System Z.

Definitely, it thought, it would never make a child cry ever again.
