It's a new day in a destroyed town many of its former inhabitants litter the charred street. Homes destroyed and many other things.
But a demon is here.
Not just one but many. Seemingly rebuilding the town.
They took the corpses of men women and children, but instead of eating the bastardized remains of men. They instead bury them.
This is strange.
Demons are creatures of destruction. Their parade of terror will cause horrible damage to those who are foolish enough to cross their path.
They spread diseases, rot, destruction and all kinds of malice.
But here, they seem to pay respect to the deceased.
This is peculiar indeed.
Supposed to a chaotic being of malice, they seem to be calm almost serene.
They organize into different sectors of reconstruction.
The bigger ones are tasked to carry heavy materials like wood and stones, they also seem to act as support.
The smaller demons are tasked with hammering the wooden beams and reconstructing small furnitures.
The ones who can fly are the ones who rebuild the roof of a higher house where the big ones, and certainly not the smaller ones, cannot reach.
To those who are too weak or have smaller intelligence are tasked to bury the dead.
The once broken town is now slowly being repaired.
If any humans was to stumble upon this they will be certainly be flabbergasted.
The thought of a demon rebuilding an abandoned and destroyed is certainly not common
But if you look to the crowd of vastly different creatures you can see the figure of a familiar species.
A human?
Now why would a human be in here?
The demons are not hostile to him frankly they seem to follow his orders.
Does he have a will on these damned creatures?
"Take your time, we won't be leaving until this whole town is reformed." The man shouted.
The man sitting on the roof of a house in the middle town.
He is eating watching the creatures slowly constructing the destroyed town.
As he ate, a demon walked to him
Seeing this the man questioned.
"Do you need something?"
"Can. I. ask. you. a. question?" The demon replied in an inhuman tone, seemingly struggling with its words.
"And what would that question be?"
"What. Are. We. Doing?"
The man smiled and ate his food.
"That is a good question." The man continued, "We are here to rebuild this town, and bury its people."
"Why? Need. Not. I. Remind. That. We. Demons. Are. Creatures. Of. The. Night." The demon said in a confused tone, "You. Are. Tasking. Us. With. Something. Not. In. Our. Nature."
"Your view on your nurture that is," the demon tilts his head, "have some of this," The man picks one of the chocolates on his plate.
"I. Do. Not. Need. That. I. Only. Eat. Flesh. And. Blood."
"Come on don't be a picky eater a piece of chocolate won't kill you" the man jokingly said.
"And for your question, we are doing this because if the corpses are left without proper burial it will be a breeding ground for diseases and illness," the man looks at the demon, "And I simply don't want that to happen."
"Why? We. Demons. Don't. Care. About. That. We. Want. To. Spread. What. You're. Trying. To. Prevent." The demons stroked its antenna, "Maybe. I'm. Merely. Confused. When. Us. Demons. When. Summoned. By. You. Dark. Magicians. We. Are. Tasked. To. Destroy. Either. Sacrifices. Or. Massacres."
The man's smile only grows wider.
"See. That's exactly what your problem is," the demon narrows its multiple eyes, "You're only shown the first side of the coin. The side of chaos destruction, and killing. You are guided by people whose beliefs are the same as yourself. They see your species as a tool of destruction, causing you to think like that too."
The man offered the chocolate to the demon again. This time the demon agreed to take the chocolate.
Testing the chocolate the demon eyes flashed for a second.
The man raises his brow in anticipation.
"Well... How does it taste like? I'm curious as to how your taste buds differentiate from mine."
Chewing for a bit the demon replied.
"It. Taste. Good. It. Reminds. Me. Of. Home?" The demon pauses on the last word.
The man's gaze turned gentle.
"Let's return to our previous topic." The man said, "I believe you demons have the same potential as humans. The potential to heal, create, and rebuild. I do not see you as tools, but companions in my pilgrimage."
"I dipped my body in the blood of my enemies to reach hell. To drag your kind into the land of the living once again, ending your eternal torment by the mercy of God, you were given another chance by him in the form of me."
"Another. Chance?" A certain emotion resurfaced in the demon's eyes
"Yes another chance to be better, as my journey continues you I and them can learn new things in this land gods walked upon." The man stands up.
"I remember when I first summoned you. You've told me in your shattered memories that you were once a scholar," the demon nod, " Tell me, if given a chance to rekindle those old memories, would you?"
The demon pondered for a moment.
"That. Would. Be. Interesting."
"Is that a yes or a no?"
"I. Don't. Know."
"Then think on that question as we roam this new land." The man looked to the horizon. The sun is slowly setting.
The man looked to almost the rebuild village.
"And we will meet the gods."
