Chapter 13: Damon's a softie

KENDALL'S POV -

I hesitated a little before spilling everything to her. But again, I knew she was too stubborn to argue with so I stepped down and told her every detail of what I had previously told Miranda.

I was worried of how she would handle all of the new information in her delicate state. But my fears went dumbfound when I saw her listening to me with a serious expression and after analyzing my story for a few minutes, just accept it

She only flinched a little when I told her, we wouldn't be able to take her to a hospital.

And then she replied herself,"Yeah. That would expose you all to your enemies plus your kind to the world. It's better for me to be here."

I had honestly been left completely astounded by Samarah.

"Don't you have any questions?", I heard Miranda voicing out my own questions.

"Of course this is so strange. But I know my friends too well to suspect that they would be lying in such a dire time. Plus, I know what I saw and that definitely wasn't normal. Plus, I know you wouldn't want to kill me yet. As well as there are no loose ends in you story. So, in short: I believe you all."

Wow! This girl was something else.

The door flung open as Damon entered carrying some very gourmet looking good packs.

"I thought that the cafeteria food wouldn't be up to your tastes. So, I uhh.....bought something different. Hope you all like it."

Damon announced, gazing at each of our faces before nervously saying," I haven't eaten since a long time as I don't particularly need it. So, I just hope that this food will be up to your standards."

Damon handed me at least five packs of varying sizes. Unable to control my bubbling curiosity any longer I instantly tore into the packs. Inside I found a cheese charcuterie board in one of the packs, a fillet mignon steak in another and tearing into one of the two identical packs, I discovered burgers. I heard Damon call out," Those are Foie Grass - stuffed burgers."

I breathed out annoyingly thinking to myself that Damon can be such a show off sometimes, he could have just brought MC Donald's burgers and we would have happily devoured them instead of bringing all this fancy food; the names of which I have difficulty trying to spell.

Sulking a little I tore into the smallest of the packs and gasped softly.

" Ummm...... Damon is this caviar?", I asked stuttering . "Yeah...I thought Samrah would like something small and light considering she is still recovering and a soup wouldn't cut it.", Damon replied almost trying to act nonchalant.

Miranda cut in almost immediately," I don't think Samarah would want to have that since the last time she had it on her birthday, she swore to never have that again."

Samrah's voice suddenly bellowed," No no no.", at our raised eyebrows on her sudden outburst, she softly continued," I think I would still like to give it a second try. Who knows maybe this time I will like it."

Huh...Samarah giving something a second try . New concept for me.

"Thank you.", Samarah paused before speaking again," Damon for all this as well as for saving me the other day."

In a heartbeat Damon replied," I would do it again if I needed to.", gazing at Samrah a tad bit longer than he should have.

UGH! He still got his smooth tongue.

-

After we had finished eating and cleaning up, Samrah decided to doze off for sometime.

The sun had almost set and my wolf instincts were begging me to stretch my limbs. Moreover, it would be better for Miranda and Damon to get to know each other better as Damon was still hesitant to approach her after getting to experience her wrath firsthand.

Considering that he was her guardian, it didn't make sense for him to be afraid of the one he was supposed to protect.

I announced my plans of returning in an hour as I headed towards the wooden door grabbing my duffel bag contaning some of my clothes.

Feeling two pairs of eyes drilling holes into my back, I exited quickly.

Poor introverted souls., I chuckled to myself before hearing the door shut behind me.

MIRANDA'S POV -

Kendall was such a jerk.

Did she really have to leave me alone with him?

Yeah, he was supposed to be my protector and all, but I was still a tiny bit afraid of him and judging by his rigid posture, he didn't look too comfortable as well.

I wondered how to start a conversation with him to make things a little less awkward .

Should I ask about his past? Or about his relationship with Kendall? Or would that be overstepping the line.

I was still lost in my internal debate as I noticed two glowing eyes peer back at me.

It was Damon's.

I think my face completely reflected my surprise as Damon shifted back a little back saying,"Sorry for the intrusion." his cheeks turning red alongwith his other flustered features. I stifled a laugh at his antics before replying," Intrusion? For what? We're you reading my mind or something?"

He stammered as he replied," I.......I......really couldn't help it..t. You looked so deep in thought and I was getting bored."

" So what did you find?", I asked cheekily not believing his words.

"Nah! You are too strong for me to breakthrough. Usually, I can get through pretty easily but in your case it's like as if everything is covered with fog. This shows how powerful you really are as I can even break into the Vampire King's thoughts sometimes."

" Hey! I think somebody really did get through me once - ", I heard the words slip out of my tongue.

Damon's brows furrowed as I further continued," I felt the presence of two different kinds of warmth in me. Like the presence of two beings as they helped me regain conciousness after my second fainting episode."

Damon replied gently this time saying," That was me and Kendall. We could get through to you because of our bond to you."

I smiled softly at this.

I hoped that he could keep up with my long charades of questions now that he had got me to start it.

KENDALL'S POV -

The evening run had done me good. I could feel my muscles ache due to the build up of lactic acid in them but the burn felt good.

My werewolf muscles no longer felt restless due to the lack of movement.

I took in my surroundings as I trudged back to the hostel. It was quite dark and the sun had set long ago.

It had at least been three hours since I had set out.

I hoped that both of them had better get long or else I would be getting some very nasty looks from them. I meantally braced myself for some glares as I opened the door to my dorm.

But the sight which I witnessed left me pleasantly surprised.

Both, Miranda and Damon were chatting away merrily. I cleared my throat announcing my arrival," Sorry to intrude." Two pairs of beady eyes looked at me, giggles leaving their mouth.

"What's the joke?", I enquired. Miranda's lips curved into a mysterious smile before replying," Well, Damon told me that he could read minds so, I wanted to figure out if I could do it as well. Turns out I can and the first memory that I stumbled on happened to be the day when Damon proposed."

I giggled too as the memory came rushing back to me as fresh as it had happened yesterday. "So what did you find?", I asked Miranda.

Damon looked beetroot red at this point.

Miranda's eyes twinkled playfully as she replied," Well, when the time actually came for him to propose to you, he nearly peed himself stuttering out the proposition. And he nearly cried when you didn't reply for a long time but thankfully you hugged him before he could."

Half-giggling I said teasingly," Awww....How cute!!!"

Looking towards Damon I knew he hated to break his tough man act.

Damon gazed at the floor avoiding our gazes as he mumbled something." What's that?", Miranda asked as Damon repeated loudly," I am not that soft at all. It was just that I had drunk a lot of water beforehand which made me want to pee."

Miranda and I exchanged a glance at his blatant lie as vampires don't necessary drink or eat.

In a split second we were on the floor rolling on our backs laughing like banshees as Damon snorted," Now, you both are just cornering me."

Finally after what felt like an eternity I was finally able to compose myself as I said," What other things did you talk about?"

Miranda smirked at Damon before replying," Except finding out that Damon is a big softie", I stifled a laugh at this," I also found out about various things like different types of vampire bites meant for killing, turning people and for mating. " Miranda's speech was cut short as a deep heavy gasp fell from Samarah's mouth.

DAMON'S POV -

I rushed towards the bed to look at Samarah. I had hoped that she would be able to pass the night but the chances seemed slim now as Samarah began to audibly gasp for breaths and was also profusely sweating.

No, no, no ,no........this can't be happening.

If only I could have reached her sooner....

I felt someone grab my hands.

My eyes followed the hand grabbing mine to its owner. It was Luce Mia and she looked panicked now, tears pooling in her eyes.

Kendall meanwhile, tried her best to stabilize Samarah but her attempts looked futile.

Panting heavily Luce Mia asked," Will she be ok?" I remained quiet, not ready to face the weight of this question right now.

Her touch on me grew hot as her voice became strained," You will have to save her."

I would do that at any cost. I was well aware of that. I knew what I had to do now. I gestured towards Kendall to leave the room with Luce Mia.

She somehow coaxed Luce Mia to give me some privacy with Samarah for what I was able to do. Kendall whispered,"Try to control you spirit the best you can and remember, I trust you." I nodded in return.

And after they left, I opened my shirt and set to work.
