Chapter 19: The Tables Have Turned

Kyte wanted to save the prince, but he was occupied with the enemies. When he had shot the arrow earlier, the enemy soldiers had spotted him. He cut down a soldier and cried, "My prince!"

"I love you brother, but you have to die now," Hammer said and was about to swing his scimitar. Suddenly, he heard some disturbances on the battlefield among his soldiers. He turned to look at what had happened. "Is that…" His eyes expanded in disbelief when he found his brother Colt on a horse.

He did a surprise attack with the horsemen. He was cutting his enemies and was heading towards him, to the center of the chaos.

Rozerd got a chance to change his fate. He slipped away and picked up his sword. "First rule of the battlefield, never let your guard down!" he shouted and jumped at Hammer. But Hammer blocked it as he was prepared for a surprise attack.

"I never thought I would find both of you here," he said. "I do not need to capture the castle now." He took his stance. "I will end you both here and now."

"Brother! I am coming!" Colt screamed while tearing through the battlefield. Suddenly, his horse got struck by an arrow and it fell, getting him thrown away as well. He hit the ground and rolled away. "Ah!"

The tribal soldiers got a chance to attack him, but he rolled away and dodged their attacks.

Rozerd and Hammer engaged in a sword-fight. They both were going equal at the moment, but the wound Hammer had received in his thigh was making his movements dull.

"What happened, brother?" Rozerd said with a smirk when he grazed the arm of his brother. "Your movements have gotten rusty."

"I do not need to be in my prime to defeat you," Hammer replied and swung his sword over the head of Rozerd, which he blocked, and pushed away the scimitar.

Colt picked up a sword of a dead soldier and defended himself. The tribal warriors attacked him from everywhere. They had sickles, axes, hammers, and every unconventional weapon one could think of.

He somehow dodged himself from their attacks and maintained a distance. Then enemies had grouped together against him and prepared to jump at him.

"The battlefield is for us seasoned men, not for boys like you who are still sucking their mother's milk," one of the tribal enemies said, making others laugh.

Just when he said it, his throat got sliced. No one seemed to comprehend what had just happened. Their eyes got expanded in shock when blood splattered everywhere and the man dropped dead to the ground. They turned their eyes to discover the bloodied edge of the sword which Colt had held in his hand.

"How did you…" one of them muttered in disbelief.

"Let me show you if I am still sucking my mother's milk," the young prince hissed and jumped at them.

The archers on top of the hill still shot arrows at the enemies. Some of them rained arrows at the enemies in front of the young prince, which created an opening for him to resist against them.

"Defend yourself from the arr…" one of them was about to shout when the person beside him got hit by an arrow, but he was stabbed through his chest in the middle of his sentence. It was Colt who did this.

"Defend yourself from me first," the prince said, before he decapitated another one when he tried to attack him. When he was done with the small fries, his eyes searched for the elephants in the room - his brothers.

Rozerd and Hammer were going stalemate until now. Colt knew Hammer would win if things go this way for a while. His eldest brother still had the advantage in numbers.

He searched the battlefield for a horse and found one near him. He hurried towards it, getting rid of enemies in his way, and climbed it to get to the center of the heat quickly. He could not let his brothers have all the fun.

Rozerd pushed away the scimitar of Hammer and tried to maintain a distance. Despite being wounded, it surprised him that the strength of Hammer had not decreased much.

"As expected of my brother who usurped the throne," He said. "I respect your strength." He readied himself to take a charge at him. "But your reign will end here and now." He charged at Hammer with full force.

Hammer tried to evade the attack, but when he exerted weight on his wounded leg, it hurt him, and he could not evade the attack properly. "Arghh…" He got a cut near his shoulder. He somehow jumped back and grabbed his bleeding shoulder.

Rozerd smirked when he saw Hammer in difficulty. "What happened, brother? You were so full of yourself, but you do not seem to be in a pleasant position right now."

"You got me there," Hammer said with a forced smile. "I will get you next time."

"You would not." Rozerd crouched and sliced the other thigh of his opponent.

"Ah." Hammer winced and dropped to his knee. He supported his weight with the scimitar with one hand and gasped.

Rozerd calmly took a stand before his brother and placed his blade on his neck. "Brother, I love you, but it is time for you to die."

Colt was witnessing all this while galloping towards them. He wanted Hammer to die because he had put the kingdom in chaos, but there was a part of him which wanted to show mercy. A dilemma was growing up in his heart.

"Brother…" he muttered. "Hiyah!" He pushed the horse to increase his speed. "Come on!"

A tribal soldier saw Hammer in his pitiful state. "Protect our messiah!" he screamed. Everybody on the battlefield got their attention shifted to Hammer.

Rozerd grinned when it happened. He grabbed Hammer's hair and pulled it upwards for him to meet his face and look at him eye to eye. He wanted to laugh at his face while he looked down at his brother in a pitiful state.

"Do you see this?" he mocked Hammer. "Everybody is witnessing you in a pitiful position. They have lost all respect for their messiah after seeing you in this position. You have lost, brother. Hahahaha!" He laughed out like a maniac at the face of his brother while still pulling his hair.

"Brother, finish him! Do not give him time to get back at you!" Colt shouted.

"Your time has come." Rozerd lifted his sword when the tribal soldiers leapt towards him to save their king.

"I would not let you create hindrance." Kyte fired arrows to keep the approaching enemies away from Rozerd.

Colt was expecting the victory from his side. It was the decisive moment of the battle. Just at the very moment, his eyes expanded in shock when an arrow pierced the back of Rozerd.

"What?" He pulled his horse. "Brotheeerrr!" he screamed when he saw the sword dropping from the hands of Rozerd, when another arrow hit him in the same spot. He could see the surprised expression of Hammer, who seemed to not know from where the arrow had been shot.

Rozerd was shocked. He struggled to breathe and dropped to his knees.

Colt turned his head to know the location of the archer. "It was you!" He gritted his teeth when he discovered it was Varius who had shot the arrow.

Varius stood there at a height and aimed another shot towards Rozerd. Just when he was about to shoot, he instinctively moved his face to the right when he sensed something approaching him. His eyes enlarged in sudden surprise when he realized it was an arrow.

"I would not let you, dastard!" It was Kyte who had shot it.

"I have already done what I had to," Varius said with a smirk and hid himself.

Kyte turned his head and saw Hammer standing with his blade on Rozerd's neck.

Hammer had a wide grin on his face. "Thank you, brother, for not letting me die a loser."

What would happen now? Would Colt do something to save Rozerd?
