概要

Monsters, humans, war. Within their shielded cities of Technomagi, the humans live their lives in small boxes. Only venturing out of their bubbles with gunslingers or mages trained to defend against the beasts outside. Teleportation to other cities is normal, done through square boxes on rails that are housed underground. These days, the disparity between humans and us has grown to a breaking point. In a single night: an entire nation of monsters vanished. A cloud and flash of light that all had seen. Only the strongest could survive against their might and stubborn ingenuity. Those terrifying, amazing humans. We had laughed at first. ‘What possible danger is there? They’re just humans’. That was centuries ago by this point, of course. We all realized the moment we saw that metal tube fall. There is something that only a human can accomplish, through their ability to see light even in the darkest situation. You don’t win against humans. You either die with them or live to serve them.

Bite of the Lycan

Jeremy stood there. Still under the light of the streetlamp. His eyes shot to the clouded sky, and the moon really was closer to earth that night. Great, and full, and red and big. Right in his face. There was another rustle, twigs breaking in the treeline just across the street, and then gravel skidding across the pavement. Jeremy felt paralyzed with fear, dread for what he knew, stalked him from those shadows. There he noticed, as his eyes adjusted to the darkness, a large, black blob of something shrouded under the tree limbs. Jeremy's breath hitched, as eyes of gold opened up, as illuminated a wolfish face, and then, it suddenly grew from a short black mass, to a tall and lengthy black mass, and from there. It took an elongated step towards the street lamp on it's side of the road. A tight skinned paw with curve, yellow stained claws, was first disclosed by the beam of light, and as it bent forward, half a wolf's ragged head, protruded, the fur in matted clumps across it's ghoulish, long and boney body. Then it stepped, almost purposefully into the light completely. It's whole body moving, expanding and deflating with every labored breath, and warm dry frost blew clouds out of wet nostrils and a gnarly fanged mouth. Its neck and down the length of it's beastly spine was heavily maned, but arms and chest and legs were naked with grey skin, veiney and painfully muscular, ribs protruding sickly. Like a large, mangy wolf that could stand on two legs, stared back at Jeremy. Seemingly calm, and deranged. Jeremy wanted to cry, run away, but he was captivated by it's stare. It didn't care that Jeremy could see it now. That's all it ever wanted. That's when the beast howled a grueling, raspy howl, that started out high and loud before it reduced to a ground shaking bellow, and that's when it lunged at Jeremy.

Shadows From Beyond

"She has a weak pulse." A strange voice said when Gwen began to regain conciseness, the hardwood floor of her apartment seemed to give way to the earthly smells of the burrow. "Intriguing." The dwarf stood over Gwen; his hands were rough as they held her head in his lap. "On three, 1, 2, 3" on three Gwen felt as if she was floating, it took a second for her body to register the Rigid Stretcher in conjunction with the cervical collar, head immobilizer, and restraint straps. "I do not know if you can hear me child, but pick one. Choose an anchor." The dwarf's words felt like instructions. Like he was trying to guide her. "Let's get her to the elevator, dispatch we have a female, 25 years old, head trauma." Gwen could not see what was going on; her vision was lost to the wash of bright lights and blood that covered her face. "Is she going to be okay?" Gwen recognized that voice, it was Marci, and she was in such distress Gwen could smell the mossy earth all around her; then the distinct smell of city air, filled with smog. She could swear she heard the gentle pops of the small fire that was present in the dwarf's manor, yet still feel the bumps of potholes. In one instant, Gwen could hear a loud ear-shattering siren, next the soft pleads of the old dwarf. Then nothing, all the sounds melted away. The perplexing images just stopped, and in that brief moment, everything seemed to become calm. She found comfort in that calm, and then she faded into the black.
