UPDATE: THE NOVEL HAS BEEN MOVED TO A NEW LINK. https://www.webnovel.com/book/the-archivist's-ploy-a-tale-of-one-against-the-world_30443424005261205 Far above the horizon, beyond the clouds and the apocalyptic storms under it, hovered a yellow-haired old-looking man. His yellow eyes gave off a bright radiance, and countless books floated around him. Throughout history, the man was known by many names, (The Watcher - The Chronicler - The Historian - The Custodian - The Recordkeeper) But during this Era, he was known as The Archivist. The Archivist's perception inspected thousands of kilometers far and wide, Yet 'Nothing interesting is happening' His frustration grew 'What's the point of a worldwide perception if there's no apposite change to perceive?' 'The world has become mundane' 'And no one is doing anything about it' Ergo, The Archivist will take matters into his own hands 'I'll orchestrate a worldwide, All-embracing scheme against an oblivious individual' With a sinister smile on his face, he devised his plan 'Turn the entire world into a person's antagonist, Then enjoy the show' And he had the perfect plot for it 'First, Utter Despair that would cause immense Pain' 'Then, More Despair that would turn the Pain to Loathe' 'Then, As the Loathe grows, The Despair will transform into Rage' 'The Rage will make the Being Crave Revenge, and the intense Crave will result in Devotion to his goal' 'Finally, The Despair, Pain, Loathe, Crave, and Devotion will all be used as fuel for the Rage, Transforming it into an even extremer emotion' "WRATH" How would a single person unleash his Wrath against the entire world? 'That's what I'm going to find out' "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" The Archivist's maniacal laughter echoed loudly 'The world is about to be entertaining' He looked up and asked with a reverberating, Bleak voice "Who will be the unlucky one?"

The Archivist 2, Emotions

If the Archivist wanted, he could go and wreak havoc in the entire world right now, but ...

'That would be boring'

The Archivist didn't mind influencing the world, but he was severely against directly changing it, at least not by his own hands

'There's no sense in writing about my own doings, that'd just be stupid and predictable ... Nothing to spectate, nothing to enjoy'

There would be no fun in that

'I'm documenting the world's history, not my personal diary'

That's why

'I need someone to do something'

Yet

'It has to be natural ...'

The Archivist put his hand on his chin ...

He could go and order anyone he wants in the entire world to do anything

'I could go and ask the Dragon Lord to conquer a Continent'

But how would that be fun?

'I don't mind influencing events in a specific direction, but I don't want to be the ONLY reason the events occurred in the way they occurred'

To put that into perspective, The Archivist was okay with adding fuel to the fire, or creating fire beside the fuel,

but he didn't want to be the one creating the fire and bringing the fuel all by himself'

'At least a single aspect has to be unpredictable, so I can enjoy spectating it'

The Archivist's mind literally spun, simulating 1000s of events in his head in a matter of minutes, yet ...

'Nothing is satisfying enough'

He first thought about making a Lord go on a rampage and destroy a Kingdom or even an entire Continent.

Then he thought about making two Kingdoms start a war.

'But if beings didn't have their own reasons, it'd be passionless'

He could stimulate countless events right now, but he didn't want anything passionless ...

'A good event needs passion'

'Emotions are what makes a book interesting, if the book didn't contain any emotions, then it wouldn't be able to evoke any emotions in the readers' minds'

'In other words ... it'd just be boring'

And for something to have an intense passion ...

'The person doing it needs to be vehement about it'

So The Archivist thought

'What emotions are extreme?'

'There are many emotions ...'

'Admiration, adoration, amusement, anxiety, awe, awkwardness, boredom, calmness, confusion, disgust, excitement, fear, horror, interest, joy, nostalgia, relief, sadness, satisfaction, and surprise ...'

'But these emotions aren't extreme enough'

So which emotions are extreme?

'The emotions that countless beings died for or because in the last few millenniums'

The Archivist scratched his small, yellow beard in thought ...

Once again, his mind rapidly spun, going through the contents of thousands of books in a couple of minutes.

'Emotions that would drive a mind to madness!'

A smirk appeared on his face ...

After thinking about the matter for a couple of minutes, he narrowed it down to 10 emotions

'Love, Crave, Devotion, Hate, Pain, Loathe, Anger, Despair, Fear and Rage'

He smiled in satisfaction

'Let's narrow it down further'

'Hate and Loathe are fundamentally the same things, both result in abhorring something or someone, thus, Loathe will be enough'

'Anger and Rage are fundamentally the same as well, Rage is an extreme version of Anger, also Rage mostly results in unleashing Wrath, while Anger might be controlled, thus, Rage will be enough'

'Fear won't be of any use to me, Fear usually drives you away from an object, which is the opposite of my goal'

And so, The Archivist narrowed the emotions down to 7

'Love, Crave, Devotion, Pain, Loathe, Despair, and Rage'

'Now how many of these emotions can exist together in harmony and work towards the same goal?'

First, The Archivist split the emotions into two groups

'One, The Neutral group, consisting of emotions that can work with other emotions'

'Two, The Belligerent group, consisting of emotions that will result in eliminating an opposing emotion'

'Crave and Devotion are Neutral'

'Love, Loathe and Rage are Belligerent'

The Archivist stopped and scratched his beard in thought again

'Pain and Despair ...'

His mind spun again, trying to understand how these emotions worked.

'It's funny that someone as old as I need to remember the contents of thousands of books just to understand how emotions work'

He looked up and smiled wryly

'Because of the Psychopathic Nature I was given, it can't be helped'

The Archivist has always been different, his mind didn't perceive emotions like other beings, he basically only felt 4 emotions.

'Enjoyment, Interest, Disgust, and Boredom.'

Anything other than that was either too faint to make a difference or didn't even exist within him.

After digging into his memory and going through the contents of nearly 30,000 books, he was done searching.

'I see now ...'

'Pain and Despair are different ...'

'Beings can't feel Pain or Despair for a target or a goal, but because of it'

'Thus, Pain and Despair belong in the Neutral group, they can motivate and drive a being to his goal'

Many options were in front of The Archivist, so he had to think.

'Positive emotions like Love, and Negative emotions like Loathe and Despair are vastly different'

'Although Love is the strongest emotion, generally, Positive emotions do not linger as long as Negative emotions'

'At the same time, to Love something is to love how it is, and love - or at the very least accept - everything about it, even its flaws'

'The goal is to change the world, but if the being feels Love for the world, then it'll abhor changing it, after all, no one wants to alter what they love'

On top of that

'Love results in Peace, Peace results in Stability, and Stability is ...'

The Archivist glanced at the books of the current era and muttered

"Boooringgggg"

At this moment, The Archivist knew exactly what he needed

'Crave, Devotion, Pain, Loathe, Despair, and Rage'

'Now I need to arrange them'

His mind spun again, and soon enough, he had the perfect order.

A creepy grin appeared on his face, revealing his shiny teeth.

'First, utter Despair that would result in immense Pain'

'Then, more Despair that would turn the Pain to Loathe'

'Then, as the Loathe grows, the Despair will transform into Rage'

'The Rage will make the Being Crave Revenge, and the intense Crave will result in Devotion for his goal'

'Finally, the Despair, Pain, Loathe, Crave, and Devotion will all be used as fuel for the Rage, transforming it into an even extremer emotion'

"WRATH"

'I need to make the being desire to inflict its Wrath upon the world!'

'And since beings only subject their Mortal Enemies to their Wrath'

An evil smirk appeared on The Archivist's face

'I need to make the world his enemy ...'
