It was harder to track down Rajinn and Shadow Bow after they lost the tracking information. However, Kyle knew that the great being who conquered one planet after another needed rest.
He couldn't fight the way he wanted to. This was thanks to the decisive battles launched against him first by the Rovan Army an then the relentless pursuit of Kyle.
For the last several months, Kyle worked with Shadow Bow and came to understand his tendencies. Whenever Shadow Bow got into trouble he would retreat into the most, unlike spot.
Retreating into the shadows, but those shadows always placed him close enough to attack his enemy. Close enough for an archer meant somewhere he could monitor his enemy and strike.
Kyle found such a place with the help of Kantor. They dashed to this location and just missed Shadow Bow and Rajinn splitting up.
"Here we go, finally," Kyle said.
"What is it?" Kantor asked.
"Look, you see those tracks? That's Shadow Bow's boot imprint. I've seen it many times. It's got that funny chunk missing from the shoe's sole. Near it is another print; this must belong to Rajinn," Kyle said.
"Are you sure?" Kantor asked.
"Of course I'm sure; do you think I'm trying to waste our time?" Kyle was exhausted, worried, and had the accumulation of months of fighting. He was slightly grumpy to say the less.
He's also had Gramps in his ear, so he's started reflected some of his blunt tendencies.
"They've split up," Kyle said.
"How do you know?" Kantor asked.
"Rajinn's shoes go off in that direction; while Shadow Bow's tracks have disappeared. He's fleeing through shadows," Kyle said.
"We should chase after Rajinn then," Kantor said.
"Of course, but we should also catch Shadow Bow, he's much weaker and I know where he's going," Kyle said.
"Where? Where is he going?" Kantor asked excited to know they could catch this traitor.
"He's going to get his sister," Bragg said from behind them. Everyone in the group knew exactly how protective Shadow Bow was of his sister. He nearly died several times over taking care of her.
He was the ultimate example of a helicopter parent. He couldn't help but hover and protect his sister.
"Send word back to prepare a welcoming party for him. Then we'll pursue Rajinn, I don't think he's too far away.
Remember, tell them not to kill Shadow Bow; it's possible he was being possessed or mind-controlled. He's worked with me loyally for months.
I have to believe his betrayal wasn't something he did of his own will," Kyle said to Kantor.
"A childish hope," Kantor said.
"Childish hope is what allowed us to believe that we can stop a being who has conquered world after world. Now hurry up, we don't have very much time," Kyle ordered.
Kantor took out a gem and placed it on his forehead as he closed his eyes. This was a kind of communication device in this world.
The mind gem allowed people to communicate with one another from incredible distances. After a few minutes, he put the gem away and was ready to chase after Rajinn.
"I don't know how strong Rajinn is right now, so everyone, be ready for anything. We must take him down this time. We cannot allow him to get away again!" Kyle said to everyone.
The group began running in the direction Kyle saw the tracks go in. He was right, not more than half an hour after rushing after Rajinn they found him running down a desolate road.
Running is an inaccurate term for what he was doing. It was more of a skip jog. His leg was still injured, he was tired, and he was losing energy.
They knew this because the edges of his body were slightly transparent.
"Archers, invite him to stay!" Kyle said to the archers behind him.
Kantor put him in a box.
Everyone else, on me," Kyle ordered.
The archers let their arrows fly. Rajinn sensed the approach of the arrows and dodged them barely. Kantor already had a spirit barrier around Rajinn.
Feeling the energy barrier, Rajinn knew he was trapped. He waited calmly as everyone waited. He smiled disdainfully at these ants.
The group came near him. Rajinn acted as if the situation he was in was nothing more than an inconvenience.
"I don't know why you seem so smug; you're trapped Rajinn," Kyle said.
"Ah, the system user," Rajinn said with a mocking smile.
Kyle was shocked by his words. How did he know he had a system? Maybe Shadow Bow or Shadow Sis told him about some of the special functions they enjoyed as part of his team. Was that enough for him to know that the had a system?
"Surprised? You're not the first system user I've encountered. You're much weaker than the last one I encountered. I killed him eventually even though it cost me a lot," Rajinn said.
"Do you really think you have the ability to kill me given your situation?" Kyle asked.
"What do you know of my situation, child? I am Rajinn, eternal Conquerer, one who devours but is never stopped. It's just a matter of time before I return to my full strength and then all of you will die!" He said.
"You'll never be given the chance foul creature!" Kantor said as a bright energy ball emerged from his chest and combined with the barrier.
"What are you doing?!" Kyle yelled.
"I'm killing this thing to save this world!" Kantor yelled as the energy fused completely with the barrier.
"I am weary, but I am not ready to leave," Rajinn said. The energy engulfed him and penetrated into his body. A flash of light and nothing but ash was left of Rajinn, the scourge of worlds.
"You killed him!" Kyle said stunned.
"What did you think we were going to do?" Kantor asked confused. Hadn't this warrior killed? According to his teammates, he was a ferocious warrior who gave no quarter to his enemies.
It then occurred to Kantor that this warrior was only fighting monsters. Maybe he thought there was a difference between the monsters in the dungeon and the monster he just killed.
"You've never killed a person before?" Kantor asked.
"No, it's not something I'm supposed to do," Kyle said.
"Not supposed to do, what do you mean?" Kantor asked.
"I'm only supposed to bring people before the court to face trial. It's not right for me to kill a defenseless person. I don't have the power to do something like that," Kyle said.
"I'm an officer of the court and I was given direct orders by the King to kill this monster. You have aided me in executing my duties so you also have the authority to kill him or anyone who threatens the kingdom," Kantor said.
"I understand," Kyle said, but he didn't look like he understood.
Kantor reached into his bag hurriedly and pulled out the mind gem from earlier. It was vibrating and had a red color. Kantor immediately put the gem to his head. He looked completely shocked.
"We'll be there as soon as we can," Kantor said. He was shocked.
"What is it, is it Shadow Bow?" Kyle asked. Kantor shook his head no.
"It's Rajinn, he's back at the base attacking the army; didn't we just kill him?" Kantor asked.
"I knew it was too easy," Kyle said.
"We have to get back!" Kantor said.
"Leave it to me," Kyle said.
