Chapter 36

Surely not panic, Beaumont?

Not panic, but he definitely felt uneasy. He thought about the story of Nate’s ex driving like an asshole. But he wasn’t that type, and it had been more than an hour since he’d had a single beer—that wasn’t the problem. He looked at the nearby street, thought about driving on the wrong side of the road, in a strange place. Neither should have been much of a challenge, but he already felt inexplicably nervous.

They arrived at the car, and Nate held out the keys. Rusty took them. Except for the sex last night, this was the first time Nate had asked him for anything at all. Surely he could do this much.

Once they were in the car, Nate gave him some quick directions, made sure he was starting out the right way, then turned his attention to his phone. “Yes, hello, Nate Dunn here,” he said as Rusty turned onto Marine Drive.
