A New Beginning

A streak of bright light shone in from the plane's round window onto Han Yue Kai's notebook causing a glare. He squinted his eyes, frowning, and used a finger to slide the plastic cover down onto the window pane. He leaned back onto the leather first class seat and massaged his eyes. What his parents told him five hours ago was still in his head.

"Stop writing those silly novels of yours that nobody reads and start learning diligently. Don't forget that you are to become our company's next chairman. You must find ways to help the company!" his father had reprimanded him after finding out that he had been sending drafts of his second novel to his editor.

"Son, you are not young anymore either. You always liked reading when you were little and said that you wanted to become an author, I chided you then because I thought you were still young. But you need to understand that we live in the real world and that your father's company is yours to manage when you have become more mature." His mother said more gently than his father, but still in a stern tone.

He sighed. His parents didn't know that he was on his way to City B and he wasn't planning on it until a week or so later. He knew that it was a very immature way to break free from his parents' restraints by escaping, and that the term "chasing your dreams" was old and overrated but he couldn't help it. He didn't want to be forced to go in a profession that he didn't like.

"Sorry for the interruption passengers, but turbulence will be expected for the next ten minutes. Please return to your seats and keep your seatbelt buckled. Smoking is still prohibited." The PA system announced overhead.

Lun Ming looked down at his phone. It was eleven thirty four, thirty more minutes until they land. He had already notified his editor, Li Sha, who arrived at City B two weeks ago. She promised that accommodation would be provided when he got there.

Lun Ming and Li Sha had known each other ever since in high school when he was in the midst of writing his first novel. Li Sha's uncle was a famous editor and since Li Sha was also interested in the career, she had gotten guidance and helped edit and publish Lun Ming's first novel.

Lun Ming's first novel had been a huge success resulting in a large sum of money and a contract with Li Sha's uncle's company, which he readily signed after graduating from high school. Li Sha had also became his editor.

"Passengers, we will be landing in ten minutes. Please keep your seatbelts buckled, and return the seats to its original upright position." The intercom announced once again.

Once the plane landed Lun Ming got up and reached for his luggage. But even when standing on his toes he could not get the suitcase off the rack. He doesn't even know how he got it on there before the flight.

"Here let me help you." Said a bright voice behind him.

Turning around Lun Ming saw a smiling young male that was around twenty years old or so. He had light brown hair and through the sunglasses, Lun Ming could also tell that he had brown eyes. He wore a pair of black sunglasses and a black mask, along with a black overcoat, a red hoodie, and black jeans.

"Oh…yeah. Thanks." Lun Ming said softly, shuffling backwards to give him a little more space as he lowered Lun Ming's suitcase.

"No problem." He replied while waving goodbye and walked down the aisle towards the exit.

By the time that he was able to hail a taxi and get his other luggage, it was already twelve twenty five. While in the taxi he gave Li Sha a call.

"Hey, have you arrived yet?" Li Sha sounded from the other side of the phone.

"Yeah. I just got here. Where am I living again?"

"Oh yeah. A couple days ago there was this new apartment opening that I saw which was pretty good so I went ahead and bought it for you. Very affordable and it's pretty big too. I sent you the address." Li Sha replied laughingly.

"Thank you so much. I will definitely pay you back when I see you."

"You should honestly pay me back when you have the money."

"I still have some savings from the first novel and ever since I was little I saved most if not all of the money I received throughout the years." He replied a little defensively.

Li Sha laughed. "Okay. Okay. Anyways I gave the keys to the lobbyist and you should be able to pick it up from them. If they say that they don't have it, call me and we'll file a complaint."

They talked for a few more minutes and then hung up. He then had her message him the bill for the apartment and furniture she had went ahead and purchased, transferring the amount back in full.

After a few more minutes he arrived in front of the apartment building. The exterior certainly looked nice. Walking into the building he was hit with a warm smell of vanilla, a perfect contrast to the cold winter air of outside. Walking up to the women sitting at the lobby, he asked for the keys and was given them along with a note that was dropped of "by the person who gave me the keys".

He thanked the woman and then took the note and keys. While in the elevator he glanced curiously at the note. It was a white envelope and on it was written his full name in elegant handwriting. The elevator dinged to a stop as he arrived on the eighteenth floor. The doors slid open and Yue Kai walked out peering at the two condominiums in front of him.

There are only two housings per floor in such a big building? He questioned walking towards the left door.

After unlocking and opening the door Yue Kai could tell that Li Sha made a really big effort in decorating the house. Immediately upon entering the room huge floor to ceiling windows could be seen on the opposite side of the door. Black sun-blocking curtains had even been added since Yue Kai rather preferred the dark. There was a white "L" shaped couch in the middle of the room and a glass white coffee table in front. There was even a black dining table including two chairs on the fair side of the couch.

Behind the couch was a kitchen with a door on the left side of the same wall the kitchen occupied. It opened up to a modern bathroom with a shower. The wall that the couch is facing also had wooden shelves built in lined fully with books and novels that Yue Kai had sent ahead of time. Along the end of the wall was a door that opened to a bedroom with a king sized bed and a nightstand including a digital alarm clock.

Yue Kai sighed happily and quickly pulled out his phone to thank Li Sha and send her more money since the furniture was clearly new too.

He laid back on the bed. Hopefully this could be a great start to his career as a novelist.
