C42 Introductions

The next day after my birthday, Souei returns with some alarming news. The herd of core beasts isn't a normal herd, but an army lead by a high rank core beast. This beast has apparently gained enough intelligence to name itself ruler of the herd that originally formed. It's been ordering the beasts to mate and breed new soldiers. It's also been sending out other high-level beasts to recruit anything nearby. This is why the herd has been growing at such an alarming rate. It was a normal herd at the beginning, and was adopted by a high ranked core beast.

How do I explain this information to my parents though? I guess I can reveal Souei to them. It's not like I'm hiding him anymore, so they will learn of him sooner or later. If they haven't already heard somehow. Thinking this, I have Souei compile his findings to deliver to my parents. I'll go and explain to my mother, and a Souei clone will drop off his findings to my father.

A quick teleport via Nova and I'm in my mother's tent again. She's not here, so I make myself at home and wait. I send Nova home and she teleports away in a flash of fire. An hour later and mom arrives. She looks tired and slightly bruised and battered from a fight, but no serious injuries, thank god. She notices my presence and tries to cover up the bruises, as to not worry me.

"Syrin, it's good that you're here." She says and smiles warmly.

"I see that you're injured." I say and she flinches. "Sit down and I'll get someone to heal you." I gesture to a couch in the tent.

"I'm fine, sweetheart. Just a couple of bruises and scratches." She says.

"I agree, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be treated. Now, sit down." I order and she looks at me defiantly. "Please sit down." I have no choice but to turn up my seven-year-old cuteness. I stick out my bottom lip and give her the sad kitten eyes.

"*Sigh* Fine." She mutters and sits on the couch.

"Thank you." I say and my expression does a complete 180. The cuteness disappears and is replaced by a serious face. "Souei, go and bring Rem here to heal my mother." I say and Souei leaves my shadow.

"Yes, Master." He says and mom practically jumps into the air and reflexively shoots a spear made of compressed air at him. The spear misses, as he teleports away to bring Rem here. I purposefully had Nova teleport back home earlier, so I had a reason to introduce her to Souei.

"Who was that?" My mother says as the guards enter the tent. They must have heard the attack or something.

"Are you alright, Your Majesty?" The lead guard asks.

"Yes, we're fine. Thank you for being so vigilant, but would you mind giving us a moment alone?" I ask and the guards look at my mother. She nods and they leave the tent one at a time.

"What's going on, Syrin?" She asks.

"I'll explain in a moment when he returns. He went to get one of my servants that knows healing magic." I explain and she just stares at me awaiting her answers. Souei returned with Rem in tow. When my mother saw him, she eyed him as if scrutinizing every move he made. "Rem, my mother needs healing." I say and Rem summons some water mana to heal her. At first, mom was on Guard, but as she felt her wounds soothing and disappearing away she calmed down a little.

"Sweetie, who are these people?" She says and gives me a look that says. 'You will tell me or else.'

"The one healing you is Rem. She's my personal maid, and the one you attacked is Souei. He's my bodyguard and spymaster." I introduce them and gesture between the two.

"Spymaster?" She asks with a questioning look.

"Yes, he has the shadow attribute, so it comes in handy for spying." I explain.

"Then how did he appear and disappear like that? Isn't that a space attribute ability?" She asks.

"Souei can travel through shadows, so he traveled through the shadows here all the way back to the manor. Where he picked up Rem to heal you. Rem has a water attribute, but she has learned to use it for healing as well." I explain.

"Huh, it seems you've found yourself some powerful companions." She says eyeing them both. Rem has finished healing her by now and has moved to stand at my left. Souei has been on my right since the beginning of this conversation.

"Yes, I have. There's a reason I came here though. Souei, give me the file." I say and he pulls a folder out of the shadows.

"Thank you." I say as I take the folder and hand it to my mother. "This file contains everything Souei has learned about the core beast herd." I say and she reads through the file. The room descends into silence, and Rem makes me a cup of tea. I've grown used to not making my own cup with her around. She seems to get upset if I take her duty's from her.

"This is far worse than I thought it was." She says as she finishes the file. "How did you get all of this so fast? I only told you about this yesterday." She questions.

"Souei works quick. It's one of my favorite things about him." I complement.

"Thank you, Master." He says and bows his head slightly.

"Wow, where did you find them?" Mom asks.

"Souei was a slave. I found out that he was being transported through Ephia and freed him. He's been with me ever since. As for Rem, she was an adventurer that wanted a slower life. When I arrived in Sena, the manor had no staff. She was the first I hired, so I made her my personal maid. The healing she can do is definitely a plus though." I weave fake backgrounds for my summoned servants.

"Huh, your very lucky to have found them." She says and holds up the file I gave her. "If this is all true, then this is far worse than I thought it was. This isn't just a danger to the kingdom, but a danger to the continent." She emphasized.

"That's why I brought it to you right after I found out." I say.

"Have you brought this to your father?" She asks and I nod.

"Souei also has the ability to make shadow type clones of himself. I sent one of them to deliver a matching file to him. Hopefully, he doesn't react the same way you did." I explain.

"I wasn't that bad!" She retorts.

"You jumped like a spooked cat, and then threw an air spear at him." I say.

"Yeah, I could have removed the air from around his body and suffocated him to death." She explains.

"Damn, I guess your right, but he could just shadow travel away." I say and my mother humphs at me. Oh my god, my mother just humphed at me. Life is weird sometimes.
